Brandt L. (Alumni-V)'s Journal

I feel like just seven days ago we were introduced to the 15 other students we were living with for a month. I fell like just seven days ago, our roommates were picked and we were stuck for a month, not knowing that we will get the dirtiest sock Jammie Award. I fell like just seven day ago, I did not know that I would learn so much about my self and that this experience would shape me into a brand new person. I fell like just seven days ago this village named "Xizhou" was alien to me.

Today the entire Voyager crew went to Old Town Snacks for dinner and ate the amazing 过桥米线.

At first, I thought we were eating Hotpot, but it ended up being something completely different!

The meat, noodle, vegetables were able to cook on their own without any fire boiling it. The soup was so hot it was able to cook the food inside itself, it was very amazing to see the process happening.

过桥米线 was very overall very delicious and if I had the time I will definitely want to eat it again.

Today I was the Daily Meeting Facilitator. Every day we have a daily meeting where we share updates on our committee work, Inquiry work, school work, and also our Microcampus Schedule. For every meeting, there is Facilitator and a Minute Taker. Basically, if I were the Minute Taker for a meeting, at the next meeting I will be the Facilitator. Since my fellow peer was unavailable, I skipped the minute taker job and became the Meeting Facilitator, well I am still being the minute taker next meeting though.

Anders L. and I woke early again today to go for another walk. This time we decided to go East. Our original plan was to sit in a beautiful scenic spot on work on our Inquiry Projects but that did not happen. Just by 7 am, not 6: 59 am this time, we sent the confirmation text and walked over the "line". As we decided to go East from Yangzhouran we had to pass the Ficus Tree and the Linden Centre. We stopped on a gravel road past the Linden Centre and watched the beautiful sunrise and took some amazing photos.

I am very confused... Is it possible to have thunder on a sunny bright day? How did I never know that? Why is there thunder on a sunny day? This magical weather of Xi Zhou has left me confused, and mad. Why do rain and thunder have to come down on our day of laundry? Now first, we can not leave our clothes outside and second, we can not allow our cloth to dry in the sunlight meaning our cloth will still be wet at night! Thanks a lot, weather from Xizhou.

Today our special evening activity was a six hour and forty minute hike. A hike which seemed endless. The first part of the hike was going straight uphill. For about an hour and a half, we went up a 600-meter vertical climb. It was a huge challenge as we were carrying a heavy pack back on our back. What helped us climb up to the Jade Belt was when we started listing words from a letter of the alphabet. This took our mind off the task and it was really nice. The second part was when we started walking on a flat road, which actually seemed endless, for hours and hours.

Today was a good as the Bicycle Cops busted all the men and women who put their locks. We threw them in BCJ (Bicycle Committee Jail) and locked them in darkness. Well maybe not in jail, but we definitely punished them harshly, allowing them to learn their lesson. Fine, we did not lock them in jail or punish them harshly we just reminded them gently... Anyways all you have to know is we took down all the criminals on our list and made sure they never repeat their mistakes, and WE WILL  hunt you down too if your locks were misplaced.

Today the Microcampus V group have finally arrived in Xizhou that we long awaited for. The view on the bus after the 3-hour airplane ride was amazing with mountains, farmland, fields, and especially buildings of Xizhou. The sky's clearness was amazing compared to Shanghai, but we soon learned the sky quality was 2 out of 10 and absolutely disgusting. Mr. T. even said that you can see the trees on the mountain even at a far distance on a normal day.
