Ethan W. (Alumni-R)'s Journal

Today my Inquiry Project was completed and approved and so was our Service Learning project. In first time of all Microcampus history did so many people finish their Service Learning project so quickly. We are also most likely having the Jammies tonight, so I am looking forward to that. The Dali trip is also tommorow and I think everybody is going.

Today was the end of our second week and our last full Friday here. The last day of SAS Essentials was today, and we were reuqired to hand in all of our work. This included our Humanites, Math and Science. I was the point person for Math 8 Drayton so I needed to send a check out mail to Mr. Drayton. To have no more SAS Essential has lifted a large weight of my shoulders but we still have our Inquiry work and Service Learning project to finish.

Today I started on the Final Product. I am not proud of skipping so much and not doing the Inquiry Work. For a final product, I will be doing a personal journey and talk about what I have learned about, myself, life in Xizhou and life in Shanghai. Tonight we are going to watch Now You See Me 2 and I am looking forward to it.

I was not invited to the Dali Old Town trip like I requested. I do hope that I will get invited to the next one. Today I had my walk and talk with Mr.T and I have a basic outline and plan for a final plan. I really do hope to catch up and do better with my final product.

Today is the final day for finishing Phase 3. I am still very behind on Inquiry work but I do have a plan set to catch up. I am excited for tonight's evening activity as it is supposed to be an in-house scavenger hunt. Tomorrow is the Dali Old Town Trip, only the best Microcampus students are allowed to go. I do not feel that I should go and see if I can do better by the next trip.

Today my group and I had a lot of progression with our Service Learning project. We have most likely found our Service Learning partner and have taken footage, asked questions and got to know her well. Her name was Yang Zhou Lian and she is seventy years old. We asked her about The Cultural Revolution, her age, where she went to school her job and other questions. Sadly we have to wake up earlier tomorrow.

Like last week today was really laid back. But we still had Service Learning. Service Learning is a project where we need to find people and have them tell their story and who they are. Sadly we couldn't find anybody so the search will continue tomorrow. Besides that today is really laid back and I hope to have a good weekend.

Today was the hike it was shortened much more then I expected. The Hike latest only two hours but the views were awesome and we went into two Temples filled with gods. At the end, we went to Muslim Mosque but sadly we didn't go inside. The hike was quiet nice but I would enjoy it if it was longer. Since I now understand why being responsible and shooting ten feet is now. Cause it can change the Microcampus experience a lot.

Today is the day before our hike. It was sadly modified to be a bit shorter but I am still looking forward to it. For evening activity we had to pack and get ready for the hike. Most previous Microcampus students have said that much is revealed about them selves and its the best part of the trip. I am looking forward to it and hope to get the best experience out of it.

Today was a bit tough. At Microcampus our goal is to shoot at 10 feet but today we were shooting much lower. Today we learned that we all need to pick up our game and shoot ten feet high. Today has been just like another day. I am looking forward to Fridays camping trip and I am going to start packing today. Today we left one of the Classrooms unacceptably unclean and will be doing one huge clean up for all of Yang Zhou Ran. In one weeks time, some Microcampus students will be going to Dali Oldtown for a trip.

Today we are about to see the movie called now you see me. It is a prequel to the new movie Now You See Me 2. For wellness today I went to a different place than usual. I usually went to Linden Commons but today place that had elderly exercise equipment. For exercise, I ran laps back and fourth. Today was just a normal day. See you tomorrow.

Today was the beginning of our second week of Microcampus. Going back into a normal schedule was a bit tiring as I was starting to get used to being able to sleep in.

Today was our second day of our first weekend. I do not have much to write about besides the fact that today we did our first wellness reflection. Today in Xizhou was a bit warmer. Nothing much has happened and I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Today was much more laid back as breakfast did not start at 8:15 and it usually started at 7:30. Today we had a history lesson with Mr.T about the last one hundred and fifty years of China's history. It was a fun and interesting class and probably one of the only history classes that I have enjoyed. Today was also the beginning of our Service Learning, and we had to go out and interview people and learn about their story.

Today was our first Friday at Microcampus. We went to a wind farm which was multiple extremely large Windmills put across the mountains. The wind farm was one of the best experiences in my life and to stand under windmill was an amazing thing to do. The view was undesirable and for future Microcampus students, I highly suggest you pick the Wind Farm. Besides the Wind Farm, it was a normal schedule and I am looking forward to the weekend.

Today was one of the better days of Microcampus. For wellness, I started to get a good time because my Time In Zone needed to be lowered for the past days.

Today was my second day of a normal schedule. During WIPPIS time we have two hours of wellness. Wellness is basically what counts as our P.E.. grade in Xizhou, it is required to have at least thirty minutes in the zone to reach the meeting standard. Today I went to the courtyard outside of Linden Commons (aka Boachenfu) again and did jump rope and running short sprints and ran around Xizhou.

Today was our first day having a full swing of things. I really enjoyed Still Time as it was one of the most relaxing experiences in my life. A was staring in front of the Music Room and looking at the mountains. With our WIPPIS time today we had first our full experience of things. For wellness, me and Jerry went on a run from Yangzhouran too another place named Linden Commons. We ran laps around an empty court yard beside the center and also played a bit of badminton.

Today was the first day for us eating outside on our own. As I we went to Si Fang Jie to eat lunch with Hillary, Anne Marie, Colin and Lexi. I went there the day before, but this time we had to go on our own and we also make it home back by ourselves. When eating, we talked and connected with one of the restaurant staff. We also met her eighteen-month-old son and his name was Ming Ming.

Today was a more of a better experience for going out of the campus and to experience more of the outside. We started to make connections with the locals and gaining resources. As of yesterday, we went out for the first day to go eat outside for lunch. We also started to learn about our Wellness, Pitching In, and other activities. At the end of the day, we went to the Linden Center, which I have been to before. We did some star gazing which was really nice.

I have had different expectations of Microcampus, and so far Microcampus has exceeded those expectations. I have very much enjoyed coming back to Xizhou after a long time. As I started to get a feel of the people and the environment of Xizhou. Since we had to wake up early at 4:30 I slept for the entire plane ride. We learned on the bus ride that the three main things that drive the economy are Tourism, Tobacco, and Mineral Extraction.

My name is Ethan W. & I am from Hong Kong. Although I call Hong Kong my home I have lived in Shanghai for fourteen years. I have decided to study Tools & Technology mainly because of two reason. My first reason is because it effects my daily life and has made me into who I am today. My second reason is to learn how Tools & Technology has effected society and the people within it. My reasoning for coming to Microcampus is to experience the place I’ve lived in for fourteen years from a different perspective.
