There are many reasons that I went to this incredible program called Microcampus, I am going to share a few of them now. The first reason is because I wanted to see China outside of the “bubble.” I wanted to do this because I felt that I did not really know the real China that is not made for tourists to enjoy. So, because of this I felt that this was one of the only chances to actually see that China.

Wow, I cannot believe that this is our last full day at Microcampus! This news saddens me because I will not be able to do this experience again but it also makes me happy because of the possibility of seeing my parents very soon. Today is all about saying goodbye and doing reflections, and yesterday was very interesting and we did our service learning presentations and we went to Dali old town. So, I will talk about Dali old town first. Yesterday at 4:30 our whole group went on the trip to Dali old town.

Today we presented our service learning videos to our service learning partners. What happened is that we shared our videos in classroom 1 where we had a projector set up and we had guests watching the videos, we were supposed to have our partners there as well so that they could see it, but Ms. Dong could not come. So what we did is we showed our video in classroom 1, but without Ms. Dong. Then later on we went to the Golden Flower Restaurant and showed it to Ms. Dong and her manager.

Then we had our daily meeting where we talked about committee reports and service learning. After the daily meeting we had pitching in where we worked on cleaning our rooms and common areas. Then we had lunch where I went to Yun Ge Snacks as usual. Then we had more service learning after lunch, Ms.

Today I woke at 7:30 and had a breakfast of bacon, pancakes, and rice porridge. Then we had inquiry project time, where I finished recording my PowerPoint, and I started on my inquiry project reflection. Then I went with Mr. T and Ella to a nearby mosque which felt strange to me because after living in Jordan and seeing the mosques there in a middle eastern style it was strange to see a mosque in a chinese style with chinese characters on the walls instead of Arabic calligraphy.

Today started out like any other day, I woke up at 7:00, had breakfast, then had SAS essentials, we then did our daily meeting, we had pitching in, and then we had lunch. But after lunch we had a different schedule, our WIPPIS was different. Instead of choosing an option from a list for options we chose what we were going to do and we created the schedule all by ourselves. So what I did is I had my inquiry project first where I did the introductory paragraphs introducing the reader to my previous work and Phase 5.

We started the main hike around 1:00 and we hiked up higher and higher on a road that started at the highway that went around lake Erhai. We had such a fun time talking so that before we knew it the hike had finished about an hour later. Then while we were at the tea planation we set up our tents quickly and we all set up our tents so that our doors were facing the valley so that we could all have a great view of lake Erhai and the surrounding area. This journal is for my language arts class and it is talking about what power and control I have within our Microcampus community. Recently I have been getting more power as Mr. T and Ms. Mai give me more responsibility. Slowly Mr. T and Ms. Mai have given us more power as time goes on because they see that they can trust us with that power and responsibility. They have given me power in my impact on the community and of the reputation of the Microcampus program. They have also given me power over my health by trusting us to report any health problems that we have.

Then after we had our inquiry project time we had our 2 hour field trips. There were two choices, either go with Ms.

In this journal entry I shall discuss power in the Microcampus community to meet my language arts requirements. One part of having power in our Microcampus community is that you have to balance order and people’s freedom. This is difficult for Mr. T to do because he has to stop us from doing anything too dangerous but at the same time he needs to give us some freedom to do our inquiry project work, among other things such as getting lunch in the village. Mr. T and Ms.

Hi my name is Griffon, I went to Microcampus when I was 13 years old. I had been at SAS for three years. I come from Canada but I have lived in Canada, Jordan, Shanghai, and now I will be moving on to Mozambique. I was in Xizhou and I was studying Antiques and how they relate to the Tea Horse Road. I was very excited about learning about Xizhou and about being surrounded by nature for a month.
