Thomas C. (Alumni-E)'s Journal

Today was a peaceful day where we had to live without electricity. The power was down until around afternoon, and I spent most of my time eating really unhealthy Chinese cup noodles and meditating on a seat. A lot of the boys spent their time lying on the same bed having a slumber party. I was so bored today, because I was not able to use my mac and phone. The most fun thing that happened today was when I went to play basketball with K2, KC, MC, VC. They taught me how to play basketball, because I had no idea how to play.

I will make this journal pretty short. Today was another normal Microcampus Day, however from today, there was no SAS Essentials from now on. The weather is getting colder really fast as the day goes buy. I also bought a stocking hat (beanie) to not lose any heat on the head. I just chilled the whole day and really did not do anything special. I might as well just copy yesterday's journal to today's journal.

Today seems to be the last normal Microcampus Day I am going to have. I spent literally all my WIPPIT time doing only Inquiry Project, because I had really big issues with recording my voice on to the video. I woke up at 7:30, and I do not know why I can not wake up earlier. I had to hurry again to eat breakfast and I was late again. I think today was one of the most rewarding and greatest day ever in the Microcampus. I ended and wrapped up Inquiry Project and after I turned in my final product, I felt the adrenaline rush in my veins.

Today is another normal Microcampus Day. However, I woke up right at 7:28 and I think I was late for breakfast. I think it is because as the trip comes to an end, I start to lose my focus and slack off. I am still not getting used to the fact that our service learning and SAS Essentials are gone. Now I have to do Inquiry Project in the morning. I was able to finish the Imovie (the final product) and reflection during today, and I only needed to record so I did not have to rush things. The most interesting thing that happened today was that I bought a Russian or Russian looking hat.

Today was not a normal Microcampus Day. I think this is the first time I said this. Today is the last full Microcampus Day in Xizhou and I feel so sad. I am supposed to wrap up all my work and pack up my bags to be ready to go back to Shanghai. I had such a great time at Xizhou and I feel so sad that I have to leave this place. I spent a lot of my time catching up on my journals, because lately it seems that I have been too lazy to write them. I also spent time to say good bye to the villagers. They ask us if we are going to come back and I told them we will.

This is the last day of Microcampus and it is time for us to go back to Shanghai. I had a splendid time in Xizhou, and I do not think that I regret it. When I first decided to come at Microcampus at October, I wanted to go because I thought it would be awsome to stay away from my parents for a month and learn in an enviroment where I might not be able to learn in again. I think that I might be able to learn more things by going out to the village.

I am not going to write about my daily schedule or how the day has been today, because one awsome thing happen. It actually snowed here in Xizhou! The mountains that I see here from the village are covered with snow, and I think they are beautiful. Also we had a small snowball fight because we can't resist ourselves to stop until Tafel came and nagged at us. Every top of the building were covered with snow. However, later in the day, the power went down in our section of the village because of the snow.

Today was another normal Microcampus Day without anything special today. I woke up at 7:00 and took a quick shower. Since I came here to Xizhou, I didn't have a single hot shower and I think that is kind of sad. In the morning, my hands are freezing, I can't feel them. When I try to type something, I am not sure if actually clicked the button. I had problems writing journals right now. For SAS Essentials, I really did nothing, just waiting for my SS Project to be ready. I didn't make the SS test together but I heard it is easy.

I don't think I have say that today is a normal Microcampus day, because it seems that everday is pretty normal. I think it is kind of stupid to repeat the same message every start of the journal. I woke at 7:00 AM as usual, leaving just enough time to take a shower. Tomorrow is Saturday, so I could sleep until 9 AM so I have enough time to eat breakfast which ends at 9:30 AM. For SAS Essentials today, I did not have to do my Language Arts essay because I did it last night and handed it in 2 minutes before 00:00 which is 11:58.

Today was another normal Microcampus day, and I was so tired from the yesterday's trip to Dali Old Town. I wasn't really hungry so I decided not to eat breakfast. For SAS Essentials, I spent all my time working on my Language Arts journal because it was due today. However, I do not think that the instructions/guidelines that we were given to us wasn't clear and I had trouble writing my essay. I ate lunch inside today and the reason is same as yesterday. I took a 30 mins nap right after eating on a chair. I did not lie down, because I knew I would get fat if I did.

Today is another normal Microcampus Day and I woke up at 7:00. For SAS Essentials I spent all of my time finishing my book club book to write my essay for language arts. I stayed lunch in, because I get really lazy when the sun is out and the weather is perfect. I really like to take naps after eating lunch. During WIPPIT time, I was wrapping up my Phase 3. For the sources, I didn't know there was a specific format that I had write it as so I had to rewrite my sources all over again. I wanted to go to Dali Old Town today, but if I didn't finish Phase 3, I wouldn't be able to go.

Today was another normal Microcampus day. I woke up at 7:00 but I felt so sleepy and I did not know why. Even after taking the shower, I feel so tired and cranky. I think now I have some troubles with the SAS Essentias work. It think that SS class is giving a bit too much HW than the other classes. I also took math test, and I think it was super easy because it was about exponents and scientiic notations which I learned like years ago. For the WIPPIT time, I slept an one hour and a half nap and gotten woken up by Catherine to do video shoutout.

Today was the first normal Microcampus day after the hike. It felt so weird to go back to normal routine after the hike, I felt so tired to wake up at 7:00. On SAS Essentials, I spent a lot of my time on Social Studies, because I think I am a bit behind work. For lunch, I stayed inside and the lunch was okay with fries. For the WIPPIT time, I spent more time on my journals from the hike. I had to catch up three journals I didn't write for Friday, Saturday, Sunday. It was pretty hard to act like I was writing the journal like it was the day I was writing.

Today is the final day of the hike. After the "most challenging" day of the hike, I do not think that the last day would be hard. I thought it would be rather fun to climb down the mountain. For breakfast, I ate noodles that contained random stuff in it. I put a lot of soy sauce into it and it tasted great. It seems that the soy sauce in Xizhou isn't as salty that I eat back in Shanghai. I didn't pack lunch that day, because the lunch from yesterday was not cleaned completely and sticky parts of rice were still left on the bin.

Today was the first day of the hike. At the start of the day, I felt so confident that I could climb the mountain with no sweat. It has been a while the last time I carried a hiking back, but I think I had it under control. I packed my lunch at YZR (the place I stay at) which was noodles, and started heading for the buses. While heading for the buses, I noticed myself panting and I was starting to get worried about myself reaching the goal. At the start of the hike, it wasn't super tiring for me, and the slope wasn't that tiring so everything was fine.

Today was supposed to be the most challenging hiking day, but it wasn't. The day started with waking up and having breakfast which was a piece of bread. I got my school bag that I packed in my huge hiking bag. When I was taking out my school bag, I started wondering how I was able to carry such heavy hiking all the way up to the temple which is around 600 meters up. In my school backpack, I made sure that my bag is not too heavy like yesterday. I also made sure that my water bottles didn't leak.

Today was an another Microcampus day. I woke up at 7:00 and took a shower right before breakfast. During the SAS Essentials, I spent a lot of my time finishing off my math reveiw. I didn't learn actual lessons that Mr. Green was teaching back at school, however I think the test would be easy because it is about exponents and I already know all about it. For the rest of the day, there wasn't anyhting special going on, it was more of a relaxing day. I spent most of my WIPPIT time organizing my information for Inquiry Project and napping my wellness off.

Today was quite the boring and a normal Microcampus day. As usual, I woke up right before breakfast leaving enough time take a shower. I only ate noodles for breakfast, and I think this is the first time I ever did. For SAS Essentials, I just continued reading my book club book and geometry work from math. During lunch, I went out and had tafel rice. I don't know why tafel rice is good, to me it seems like randomn ingredients were stuffed into the rice. For my WIPPIT time, I just spent most of my time staring blank and do nothing.

Today was also a normal Microcampus day. However, I woke up at 6 AM, because I was not in a mood to go back to sleep. I just sat their for like 30 mins still, then took a shower at 6:30 AM. Then I woke up everbody else. For SAS Essentials, I spent most of time reading my book club book. For lunch, I ate inside so that I could go outside and eat dinner. For the WIPPIT time, I spent a lot of my time learning this Chinese traditional gambling game called Ma Jiang. Ma Jiang was more addicting than I thought, I wasn't able to stop after playing more than 2 hours.

Today morning I woke up at 7:00, leaving just enough time to take a shower and go eat breakfast as usual. The water is cold in the morning, but I do not really care. It was a normal Microcampus day. For SAS Essentials, I worked mostly on my geometry work from math and read articles for the pdcast homework given by the Social Studies class. Durin the WIPPIT time, I went out to the village with a chaperone named Fay and another student Kevin Tu to find examples of local recreation. For lunch, I ate 2 bowls of tafel rice and a drink.

Today was also a normal day. I woke up at 7:00, just enough time to take a shower and go eat breakfast in time. Taking shower at YZR is freezing. The water itself is quite warm, but the air around it is freezing cold. When I turn off the water, everything feels so cold and I start to shiver. I use hairdryer to dry my hair, because if I leave my wet hair in cold air, my hair somehow gets stiff. During the evening, I also taught Annaliese Korean. It was kind of boring.

Today was a normal day as always. I woke up at 7:00 in the morning again, leaving enough time to take a shower before breakfast. In SAS Essentials, I spent a lot of my time doing the task that the SS class gave me. For wellness, I did some jump roping, running, and I also threw cards. Throwing cards was very tiring and after 30 mins of throwing, my arm was so sore. I wanted to learn how to throw cards, because the man in the movie 'Now You See Me' threw it so awsome. However, it seems that I didn't have talent in throwing cards and I gave up.

Today is Saturday, and I had nothing to do today until lunch. I spent most of my time hanging around and throwing cards. I ate rice for lunch. My room is such a mess, I should clean it today. After lunch, we had service learning, where we had to talk with the elders and later interview them about the China's past. When we headed out into the village, not many people greeted us like they did with Tafel. A lot of the elders were taking naps. We weren't able find good elders. After service learning, we all went to Dali Old Town which had all sorts of things that I can do.

Today is Sunday, and there is nothing to do except wellness reflection and journals, which takes about a hour. I ate Tafel Rice for lunch outside. Today's weather is really sunny, perfect to go outside and play badminton. My room is still a huge mess right now, me and my roommates did not clean up the clothes after laundry. I woke up at 9:00 and went to sleep at 12:00 yesterday. I know it is unhealthy, but I like to sleep late.

Today's routine was a little bit different from Monday and Tuesday. I had my daily breakfast, lunch, and SAS Essentials, but instead having the WIPPIT time, we all went to a nearby village where Tie Dye is a big part of the community. We went to that village so we could learn how to make tie dye and explore markets near to the factory. I think this was a huge advantage to the people who chose tie dye as their Inquiry Topic. In SAS Essentials, I spent most of my time reading my book club book, and I also solved some geometry problem.

Today was similar to yesterday, and I took that math test today. I don't think the math test was hard enough, but it doesn't mean that I will get a good score. I think the work for SAS Essentials is not much, if I spend my time well. Soon I will have lunch, and I am thinking to eat noodles today. Today breakfast was good, however I think the bread is kind of hard and cold for me. I finally got my space of the room organized and cleaned. Right now, the sky is clear blue unlike polluted skies of Shanghai and there are quite a lot of clouds compared to other days.

Today was the first day with the regular routines. To me, the regular routines seemed too different to the original school routine, so I was kind of confused and tired. After we woke up, we had breakfast altogether. Then it was time for the SAS essentials. During SAS essentials, I was supposed to study for math test for tomorrow, but I already finished the review back in Shanghai, so I spent most of the time reading my book club book. I went to eat lunch with Venessa and Benjamin today.

Today was quite an exciting day. Today I started my day by waking around 6:00am. I am the only one who takes shower in the morning, so I didn't have to wait for anyone to take a shower. Food for today was great, and for lunch we went to eat at the square called 四方街. At 四方街 there were all kinds of food that were sold such as noodles, ice creams, and fried rice that was called Tai Fei Chao Fan (named after Tafel). I also rode the bike here for the first time. All the bikes that we borrow from the Linden Centre are better than I expected.

Today I woke up at 4:00am because today I needed to the Hongqiao Airport to leave Shanghai and head for Xizhou. It took a long time for us Microcampus kids to reach Xizhou, around 3 hours of airplane ride and 6 hours of bus ride. In the airplane, I did not have anything to do except watch anime and movies on my mac. I also so slept for around one-quarter of the the airplane ride. Outside the airplane windows, I was able to see the mountains that surrounded the city. Yunnan had a lot of mountains unlike flat Shanghai.

I spent a night at the school with the kids going to microcampus, and I think I learned a lot from this experience. I think it was a good practice to communicate with the local people using Chinese. I also got closer with the people who will be going with me. I also learned what I have to do in all sorts situation like what do I have to do if I have an injury. It has been a while I have slept uncomforatbly in a sleeping bag. i body is sore after I woke up.

Hi, my name is Thomas C. and I am now in Xizhou. The sky is so blue and the food is great. When it is night, the sky is so clear that the stars are visible. I am looking forward to meeting local people, and hopefully be able toe make friends with them.
