Our Service Learning partner was Mr. Yang, he is 79 years old. He studies Bai Minority culture and history. We learned during our conversation, that he suffered from Meningitis when he was younger. This has impacted his school career and his life in general because he could not attend university. I learned that Xizhou used to be very rich and prosperous but then things changed with the great leap forward and the Cultural Revolution. I also learned about the work that they had to do during Mao's regime.

We went to pick up our Service Learning partner at Se Fang Jie. We brought him back to Jang Zhuo Ran. After we arrived there, we offered him tea and fruit and then watched the service learning video.

Sharing was very successful. Our service learning partner really appreciated the work we had done. He was very proud to see himself in the video. Afterwards, he was very keen to take pictures with us and we had a very nice moment of farewell.

I suggest that all future service learning groups start making contacts very early and establish service learning partners early in the process. If you have a partner early, you can avoid our mistake and start filming very early on and start working on the video.
