I among 10 lucky students have been chosen to be able to go on this once in a life time opportunity. This trip will not only let me venture beyond my "bubble", but it would also influence me to look at the world from different aspects. Through this process, I have narrowed my list down from the wide variety of inquiry topics to my top three choices. Then, based on feedback, I have finally narrowed down to a topic I am quite fond of.

In Phase 0 , I looked through the variety of inquiry projects, chose which three were the most compelling to me; and within those three, I chose my topic that I thought was most interesting and that I would be studying for the next 2 months or so. Continuing, here in Phase 1, I will be finding more information on my topic and figuring out useful questions.

In this Phase, I will be listing some keywords I used for my research, and I will be talking to some experts that might help me on my inquiry project. If you want to read about my process for finding topics and my strategies of cutting out topics, go to my Phase 0 and if you want to read about some of the questions I had for my inquiry project, go back to my Phase 1.

During my Phase 0, I have not only listed the topics I might want to do, but I also firgured out what my final topic would be. Next, within my Phase 1, I listed some useful questions that will help my project go more in depth.

About This Learner

My name is Isabelle S. and I am 13 years old. I was born and raised for several years in the US, San Francisco, but moved to Shanghai, China when I was around 4. My father is from Paris, France (born and raised) stating I have blood from Europe; also, I have a French passport. Therefor, I am not only American and Chinese, but I am also French. Before I came to SAS, I went to local school, stating I have a pretty strong basis in Chinese. Anyhow, I am currently here in Xizhou enjoying the fresh air and the beautiful blue sky. The topic I am studying is the end of life rituals (past and present traditions, tombstone carving, and casket making). From the people I have met, I can agree that everyone here are friendly and extremely welcoming. I am still extremely excited about what I may encounter, witness or experience throughout the rest of this trip.
