From April 18th to May 15th of 2015, a small group of SAS Pudong students will travel to Xizhou, a town in Yunnan Province to partake in a journey called Microcampus. The purpose of Microcampus is to get out of the city life in Shanghai and learn about the culture and way of life of local Xizhou, specifically, researching a topic of large interest in depth. This topic of interest will be turned into the main project we undertake while in Xizhou, called the Inquiry Project. We began by selecting a topic from a long list of choices and then narrowed it down to one.

In Phase 0, I established my topic which is The Linden Center Story. This is Phase 1, where I will begin creating questions for the Linden Family and the locals that surround the center. In addition to the questions, I will start building up background knowledge on the Linden Center as a whole.

You have know entered Phase 3 in my inquiry project. In Phase 0, I worked on narrowing down to one topic for further investigation, and in Phase 1 I clearly defined what I knew and wanted to know about my selected inquiry project; The Linden Centre.

This is now Phase 4 where I will be creating an outline of my final product. In Phase 0, I selected the topic that I would use as my inquiry project. In Phase 1, I began posing questions about my topic. Because question are the fuel of the project.

About This Learner

Hi everybody! My name is Aavia and I am 14 years old. I was born in the United States, moved to India, moved to China, and I lived in Xizhou for a month. My inquiry project was on The Linden Family/Centre and how small businesses are impacted by them. Some things I enjoy to do in my free time are singing, dancing, reading, and sometimes swimming. The Shanghai American School society offers many opportunities for us students studying here and some that participate in are: The Musicals, AMIS, ASA Dance, CISSA, and I was in MUN for a short period of time. I was part of the L-Group of Microcampus and it was truly a great experience.
