Jillian K. (Alumni-C)'s Journal

It's been so long since I've smelled the fresh air of Xizhou....and I miss it. Cookie Monsters Forever!!

For the future D group, first of all, HAVE FUN!!! Microcampus is so short and it flies by like nothing. Seriously. Stuff yourself with Xizhou baba (I won't tell you what it is, but you'll figure it out) and eat as much homemade icecream as possible. Really live life to the fullest and don't sit there on your computer.

This is a journal with no word of the day. I just want to share why I wanted to come to Microcampus, and what I learned.

I wanted to come because I thought this trip was cool. Going out and finding new places and learning about something that I wanted to learn about. I think tht really intrigued me. Also, to be completely honest, I first wanted to come because I thought skipping school was going to be fun. Now, I realize why I wanted to come: to get out of the bubble and find fresh air. I also really wanted to dig deep into farming.

Today's word of the day is NOOOOOO. Simple, but it comes with a large point. The reason for NOOOOOO is because I really do not want to leave. It is too early. The time flew by so quickly. Even still, I'm glad to go home.

Today we had a list to do for packing and completing everything. I think I am doing pretty good on it. Kind of. Then again, it is really hard to see the luggagee packed and the closet empty. We did get our Microcampus T-shirts, which I am super happy about. They look so cool!

Today's word of the day is noomgriceplantnoyaynoantiquewhat. The reason for this word is because it is so close to our leave. I don't want to go, and yet I can't wait to see everyone.

Today's word of the day is fduisfhnoyesnoyesnoyesnoWOOT. Today was pretty normal, except for one thing.

The one thing that wasn't normal was that our Final Product was due today. I did a Scratch animation video. Go check it out! I'm proud of it though there are parts where it looks messed up. It took me all day to crack the code and program the whole thing. It took awhile but it was so fduisfhnoyesnoyesnoyesnoWOOT.

Today was a normal, head banging, day. The word of the day is blhieoghiofdsbfyliwoo. The reason being is that I had an okay day, but it was all over the place.

The first blhieoghiofdsbfyliwoo that happened was that we had math today. We were all stuck on a question and it was really annoying. The annoying part was that when we found the answer, we realized it was kind of simple. We ll got very annoyed, but we ended up solving it in the end.

Today was the dumpling day. But even though it was dumpling day, the word of the day is dumplingbumplingserviceboo. The day was dumplingbumplingserviceboo because I feel like it's that kind of day.

Today we met our Service Learning partner. He was so cool because he plays the er hu, a Chinese instrument. I can't really explain it so look it up if you really want to know. He also has unfoldable glasses, which are so semi-pra. I asked him some questions, and though I couldn't understand, I could pick up some words. It was dumplingbumplingserviceboo.

Today was so fun, but it started out kind of slow. Today's word of the day is blahblahblahLOLOMGTTYLXOX:).

The day started out with a late breakfast. It was okay because I woke up late(r) and ate chicken wings and bananas and stuff. Then we had Inquiry. Then we had Service Learning. Unfortunately, our guys was playing Majong somewhere, so we couldn't interview him. Then again, we already had some information. While I write the written story, with very little input from Jorge (COUGHCOUGH), Katie and Ying Yang worked on the movie.

Today was definetely amazing. I love today. The only sad part is that today marks the day in which 7 days later, WE LEAVE. NOOOO!!! I want to see my friends and my cat, but I don't want to leave Xizhou and the people who are so nice. The word of the day is yayblahgogahyperdancepartydancebleh. This word describes the day pretty well.

The first thing yayblahgogahyperdancepartydancebleh that happened was that it was our last bigbig work. I am kind of happy tht we don't have much work ahead (apart from my Inquiry Project) but then again, schoolschoolschool.

Oh No! 8 days left!!! NOOO. It goes by so fast. I can't wait to come back, but I will miss the baba and the fried rice and the freedom! The word of the day is omgnoomgyesomgnoomgyes. The reason for this word is because there was so much omgnoomgyesomgnoomgyes in the day.

The first major thing that happened was that we started, and finished, Phase 4. I want to do a animation. I think it will be so cool. Check my Phase 4 for more information.

Today was an interesting day. The word of today is omgyayblahnanomatano. The word of today is omgyayblahnanomatano because it was a stressing day but there was some cool parts.

One stressing part was that our research is due tomorrow! Though I am confident I have my information, I am worried it is not enough. I love garlic and for my final product....well that's a secret. :)

Well this week is going to be quite interesting. The word of the day is omgomgomgomgomgdsigbdsa. Today was in such a panic. There are 3 major dates that I needed to remember and I think I may be overwhelmed.

The first major date is that all of our research needs to be done by Wednesday. I just figured out what I want to do (exactly) so now I got to really get out there. Also, my topic is more difficult because it changes in one day. I could see one person one day, then never see them again. I think I'll be okay, I just need to get out there and stop worrying about Chinese.

We are back! I am so glad, but then again, I already miss the view. The word of the day is is homebfdisuafhaiudsbfdiasbfysal. Notice the home. I love home. And yes, Yang Zhou Ran is one of my many homes.

Day 15 was the easy way up. Definetely. We were already at around 2900 so we only needed to ascend 300 meters. Though I brought way too much stuff, the word of the day was eamygosyayewblahla.

Well, Day 14 was quite a blur. It was so blurry that the word of the day is tirexhaustedblargh. I was so tirexhaustedblargh that I was so glad for any breaks or water or food.

Today's word is normablayagatahalafano. Today was a normal day, but there was some parts that was normablayagatahalafano.

One part was that Erin and I went to the same field as yesterday. I tried plowing again, but this time for longer. It was very difficult. My back hurt a bit and I was tired. I can't imagine going through that for a whole day. We also helped to pick more garlic. Xiao Tang helped me to get a contact. At 2, Erin and I met up with the woman on the laundry place. We picked garlic garlic in a dusty field. It was hard work but I enjoyed it a lot.

Today's word of the day is garpicbukball. Today was a really WOW! day because I decided, for the last time, to do garlic! Xiao Tang, our guide, told me that rice season wasn't until a little bit later. I decided since I've seen so many garlic fields, that I should do garlic instead.

Day 11's word of the day is teplenationation. The word of the day is teplenationation because it was basically a normal day except we went to a tea plantation. After 30 minutes of WIPPIT Time, most of us (Lucas and Alisa went on a trip to Dali Old Town) piled onto a bus to the tea plantation. When we got there we split into 2 groups: boys and girls. Us girls went to go make some tea leaves. It wasn't really "make" but it was more "pick and process." Ivy and I got addicted to picking tea leaves, and after what felt like 10 minutes, we still picked about 25 more along the way back.

Today, it was a new week, a new start, and yet new pressures. Day 10's word is maflagicantalianarz. We had a normal schedule, but our Inquiry project work is due next Wednesday, which is huge because I need to get cracking. I've decided to do rice, since I feel like there is so much to learn. Also, rice is an essential part of many Asian meals. I decided after looking at the fields and realizing that I really wanted to do it.

Today's word of the day is rushrushrushrunrunrunwalkwalkwalksit. As you can tell, it is made up of the words, rush, run, walk, and sit. This word pretty much sums up my day. In the morning after camping, I was kind of sore, but the sunrise was beautiful. When we packed our tent, we had to try about 5 times before we finally got it semi-small. Then we wrestled the tent into the bag for about 10 minutes. I was too frustrated to retry, so we pushed and pulled and did everything until FINALLY we got it in.

Today's title may be a bit confusing, but in this journal, it will all make sense. The day's word is fantasfusnesness. It was the first weekend in Microcampus, so most of us got to wake up later, around 8-9 AM. I was going to wake up at around 8:15, but then I realized Erin and Miranda made pancakes. I quickly rushed up, hoping to get there before everyone else when I realized that Ivy and Alisa were the only ones there. Even so, we only got 2 pancakes ( ;) ) and they tasted fantasfusnesness.

Today was probably one of my better days. The word of the day is awkatetinwawl. The day was awkatetinwawl because we had so many moments that was awkward and interesting. Miranda and I woke up at around 6:35 to make pancakes. We had some trouble finding the mixture, but it was definitely better than the last time. We also had 2 stacks of blackberry pancakes. I think we should have made a double batch, because before everyone was through the line once, they were all gone.

Day 6 was an interesting day. So interesting the word of the day is danhackywork. The day was danhackywork because we played Hacky-Sack, had traditional dancers over, and I finished (kind of) Phase 2. The Hacky-Sack work was so danhackywork. We all came into a circle and tried to kick the bag around. It was definitely harder than it looks. We also played at night, and I ended up having some pretty sweet moves. It was danhackywork because everyone had a different style.

Day 5's word of the day is mukingfodnessome. The day was mukingfodnessome because there was so much that I can talk about! The first most mukingfodnessome thing that happened was that the girls (apart from Ivy) went on a bike ride to the Erhai Lake. We visited a temple and saw the bowls stacked up. Someone (I think Natalie) said the bowls were there because the people but 1 bowl twice a year. We also saw some gruesome pictures of hell. They were very.....they were too much. Then again, I've seen some pictures of it before. After the temple, we stopped at the tongue of the lake.

The word for today was hypwakwardneblula. The day was hypwakwardneblula because I was mostly hyper and awkward. I was running around the place with a volleyball with a badminton racket with my computer with my camera with NOTHING at all. I was all over the place. The only time I was really quiet was Terrace Time. It felt as if the leaves and the tree were talking to me because when I would ask a question (in my mind), the trees would rustle an answer and I would interpret it. It may sound weird but it answered many of my thoughts.

Wow, today was a very interesting day. I now realize that I need to come up with a word for each day. The word of today would be spulrtaculistic. Today was spulrtaculistic because there was a mix of fun and worriable things. The morning was spulrtaculistic because my room and I (Miranda, Alisa, Erin, Ivy, and me) made pancakes for the whole group. Though the first pancakes were defintely a fail, the group ended up loving it. The mixture (for referance) was made from scratch. There was no measuring cups or teaspoons or anything.

If I were to come up with a word to describe this day it would be fhdusifhishfidohfuihfuishfuios. Though that is not an actual word in the dictionary, nor is it a word mixed up of different words, its something that definetely describes a lot. The day kicked off at about 6:50 AM when my room mates and I woke up. We did our normal routine and ended up eating delicious pancakes and chocolate milk at breakfast. We then took a tour around the courtyards and learned interesting stories.

Like the title says, WE FINALLY MADE IT!! We are in Xizhou, or Happy Town, currently staying at Yang Zhou Ren (I don't know the spelling...). I am roomed with Ivy, Miranda, Erin, and Alisa. Our trip here was difficult and there were many times where I had wished I could have said "are we there yet?" but other than that, it was not as bad as I thought.

I feel like it was only 2 weeks ago when I checked on Miranda's computer to find out if I got in or not. NOW, 30 days later, I'm here, writing a blog post, and feeling super excited about the departure. I read up on some of the Puxi microcampus' inquiry projects and I can tell that they are learning so much. To be honest, I'm kind of jealous :P. I can't wait to be out in the fresh air and in the fields.

30 days from now, I'll be at the airport waiting for an adventure. But for now, I'll end with a good luck to the Puxi students! See you in 30 days, Xizhou!

As my first Lock-In, I really can't say it was the best but it was definetly....interesting. It started off with 8 out of the 16 of us. Some people were at MUN, play practice, badminton, and so on. The first instructions were to plan dinner. Very vague, and with a a price limit of 75 RMB per person. After we decided to order from Papa Johns (credit to Ivy for translating and Aidan for posing as the "banker"), slowly everyone filed into the room. For the next couple hours, we listened to Mr. Monteith, thought about our time with the nurse, and talked about our service learning project.

Xizhou was amazing, and I loved it. It really changed who I was into a more open person who really knows to take everything in. I think Xizhou is the perfect place for breathing. I also love dance, sports, cooking, nature, animals, music, art, photography, and so much more. My favorite people in the world are my mom, dad, family, and friends. I like to spend my time hanging out and chilling. :D ☮
