The topic I want to look into is farming. I want to investigate this topic because last year in Tonglu (7th grade China Alive), I enjoyed farming and planting the crops. It was one of the first topics that hit me to be the most interesting. This topic is important to me because I enjoy learning about the environment and I have always wanted to try out farming.

<p><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: georgia, serif;">Before staring the formal research portion of the project, I knew that it takes around a year long to plant and harvest crops. I knew that agriculture is used all over the globe, but aquaculture is more used. I knew the basic way to plant something: pound (not sure the exact word) the ground, use a hoe, plant the seed, cover, then water frequently and give it plenty of sunshine. I am not exactly sure where I learned this, but in my old school, we learned about gardening.

During my stay here in Xizhou, I will be learning more about my topic of farming. While learning about my experience, I need to find some resources on the internet and in the village that will help me discover new facts. I think some keywords that will help me learn about farming are: farm[ing], process, yunnan, xizhou, agriculture, planting, crops, and tools. I think for the words such as "process" and "tools" would need to be paired with other words, and I should see the context of the word when I skim the website.

As we near the end of our trip, I am starting to think about what my project is actually about. I have learned the entire process of garlic by watching many a day work in the fields of Xizhou. The main point of this project is to show everyone how to grow garlic, because garlic requires certain timing and materials, not to mention certain care for it before cooking/eating. Though garlic can grow in many different soils, the conditions of the outside world are very important.
