Today was the day that we were all looking forward to meet, the day that once it was 4:00 pm all of our major projects would be off the table. Today was the day that we were presenting our Service Learning. When it was time to go pick up our partners we left. Once we got to his house something happened that changed my whole perspective about our partner. He wasn't home even though that we told him that we would pick him up at 3:00 pm this morning, This lead to our group splitting up into groups of 2 and running around trying to find him.

Today is a day dedicated to only our Service Learning Project. Our Service Learning project is an I Movie about the life of our Service Learning partner and his point of view of the history of China. Currently Nicki N is editing our project by applying out subtitles to our project. I am not much help with this because I cannot understand any of the Chinese that our Service Learning partner is saying, therefore I was not much help to them with the  subtitles. I am really looking forward to our Service Learning presentations tomorrow.

Today was the day that we get the biggest activity that we do at Microcampus out of our agenda. That activity is our Inquiry Project. We were required to make some type of media that could help us share our learning. Once I got done with my Inquiry we were given the opportunity to play cards with all of our friends. I am not a big cards fan so I didn’t join. Anyway, back to the due date. We spent the whole day worrying about whether or not our projects would be good enough for people to enjoy our projects.

Today was the last weekend of our stay in XiZhou. Many people might be thinking that this would have been a very relaxing weekend. The thing is that this was the start of the week that all of our projects that were due. This week our Inquiry Project and our Service Learning projects were due.  Therefore everybody was in a rush to finish all of their work so that they could go to Dali Old Town.  The highlight of the day however was not the fact that we were all doing our work. The highlight of the day was the peace and quiet the boys were facing.

Today was boys night out for our evening activity. What fun we had watching kids puking on the streets and fighting. All joking set aside, we actually had much more fun than we were all expecting to have. The night started with me and my friend Carlos going shopping for our family. We wanted to supprise them with something nice and unique. I decided to buy a supprise which I cannot share in case my parents read this journal post. I will also not be saying anymore about what me and Carlos went shopping for in order to keep his supprise a secret as well.

Today for science we were instructed to write a blog entry about 3 things. Firstly we are required to write about  observations of the second “common” sphere – the hydrosphere. Secondly we are required to write about observations of current local practices/alterations to the hydrosphere. The last thing that we were required to write about was observations of the student’s personal use and long-term effects of different day-to-day choices.

The main source of green energy within the village is mainly solar panels. Solar panels are found all around the village, such as in farms, on top of our living quarters, and on the street in general. An example of green energy is windmills that you will find on the mountains. These windmills provide electricity that is distributed in around town by wires. While going to laundry there is a very clear example of green energy. At the front of the alley way there is windmill that has a solar panel on it.

Today was another normal Microcampus day. We were all happy, for the most part, doing our work and talking to each other when we can. The only problem was that only 3 of us knew what was going to happen today. We didn't know when it was going to happen, the Puxi students could have cared less, but something big was going to happen. Now you might be thinking, " Why do only 3 people know?" Well the answer is simple, they are in her class. That's right their 8th grade humanities teacher was coming to visit us for her October break.

Today was a day that was dedicated to only working. We spent the day trying to have our Inquiry Projects finished and ready for because tomorrow is the day that our Phase 3 is due. During our time today we all went out to interview and to talk to Mr. Tafel about our projects. The most memorable part of the day however is not something that we should all be proud of. Today half of our group had disobeyed teacher instructions. This then resulted in us all getting a lecture on who did something wrong and what they did.

Today was all about getting done with our Inquiry work before Wednesday. Today during the daily meeting we were given a schedule about how we will be going about doing our work for the next 2 weeks. The main thing that stuck everybody hard was that we had to be  done with all of our inquiry work for all of Microcampus by Monday no later than 2 pm. Therefore we all got straight to work without any hesitations.

The last thing that anybody in the group had expected was how short the hike back down the mountain would be. We were all expecting a 13 hour hike because of all the time it took us to get up here in the first place. The hike back was lead by  Evian, Maddie, and myself. The most memorial part of the trip was also one of the most dangerous parts of the trip. Before going on to the trip we were told stories about the many funny ways that the mules have acted. The only thing that we were not expecting was to experience these mule stories in real life.

Today went to the summit of point 3232. After being told to make a decision to turn back or head up we decided by an overwhelming majority owe decided to go up. We were under the impression of a hike that would take 3-5 hours. To our surprise we were at 3232 in a matter of one hour. 3232 is not the biggest mountain in the valley that we were in but it was one of the many biggest. the view form the top is a very majestic site of the valley and the mountains below. Once at the top we were given a break to view the site for  30 minutes.

The first day of the hike didn't start of as I had really expected. I had thought that everybody would be sleepy, tired and not willing to go on the hike. Surprisingly everybody, including me, were all very excited to go on the hike. We started off with a very healthy breakfast in order to get enough energy to go on the hike. We then took a bus ride to the foot of the mountain with all of our bags packed and ready for a 3 day hike. The hike started with a front group and then a second group following along with a 5 meter distance between each group. It is said by Mr.

Today for our science Homework we were instructed to observe a certain sphere in nature, the sphere that I am observing is the atmosphere. During my past week here in XiZhou the atmosphere has been acting up a lot lately. There has been a lot of rain lately and drastic changes in temperature. As a group we decided to discuss the reason for these drastic changes in temperature. We later concluded the reason for drastic changes was because of how high we are in the mountains. Since we are very high above sea level the closer we are to the sunrays. Therefore it is hotter.

Today were given 3 quotes to write about. The quote that I have chosen is "Discipline yourself and others will not need to." I believe that this quote means that, if you always use your manners and stay kind, then other people will not need to remind you about doing so. This is a very good skill to learn so that in the financial world you will not need to be reminded about discipline. In the financial world if you are not behaving properly at work then you are most likely going to be fired.

Today was a very normal day with everybody working hard to get all of their work done. There was not much excitment in today except for the fact that i went and to meet two antique dealers in XiZhou. The dealers gave me tons of advice and gave me very exceptable answers to my questions. The rest of the day went along with me following my schedule and doing more work. During the night we had no evening activity planned which caused us all to talk and play card with each other. I am really excited for tommorow because we are all going for a hike.

Today we had an evening activity planned which was Trivia Night. We all split into our learning groups, made our team name and started the game. My team's name was the Anti Social Students. In order to represent this we made a costume. The costume was a hoodie with sunglasses and earphones. The first round went by very quickly with my team trailing behind. During the second round the points were doubled. Regardless of the doubled points my team was still trailing behind, but we were tied with another team (The Bad Assets). The final round was the most intense round of all.

XiZhou is a village that is located next to one of the biggest lakes in all of China, Lake Erhai. Lake Erhai is a lake that spans to a maximum length of 40 kilometers and a maximum width of 8 kilometers. Lake Erhai is XiZhou's main source of water. All of the streams that lead into the village of XiZhou are all leading water form Erhai to the village. Besides Erhai XiZhou has another main water source. XiZhou is a small village surrounded by mountains. While we were on a hike on one of the mountains we discovered noises of water rushing down the mountains.

Today was the start of our first weekend. The day was spent relaxing and playing with friends. We were instructed to relax so that we could be ready to for the upcoming week on hiking. The day started as a normal day with breakfast. It was then followed by a lesson on Chinese history. We later on realized the speech was given in order for a friendly activity. The activity was that we had to go around the village and find an elder older the 65 and ask them how life was like 65 years ago. You might not know that 65 years ago is when the Peoples Republic of China was formed.

For our science homework we were instructed to look at 5 other inquiry projects about nature. We were also instructed to observe the different spheres in XiZhou, such as the hydrosphere. In XiZhou the Hydrosphere is a very important item in local XiZhou. The Inquiry projects that I looked at consist of Sujin's project on water treatment and Jillian's project about farming.

Today was our first ever-rainy day. The day started of with a 4.1 magnitude at 12:00 at night. Surprisingly none of us woke up from our sleep except for Mr. Tafel. Once everybody was awake we went about the day, as it was a normal day. During my Inquiry project time Mr. Tafel took me to Mr. Du's house in order to see his gigantic collection of antiques. There I learned many different things. I learned about the different dynasties that were in XiZhou. I also learned what the different types of pottery Mr. Du had were used for. An example was when I noticed some very huge decorated pots.

Today was our fist day that we implemented our actual schedule. We started of with breakfast followed by an hour of SAS essentials. Next we had our daily meeting and Pitching In time, in which I had cleaned up my room. After a filling lunch at Si Fang Jia I headed back to our living quarters to finish the last of my 3 to 5's. 3 to 5's are when you interview 3 to 5 people on your topic for 3 to 5 minutes. The last person I had to interview was Ms. Linden. Mr. Linden gave some very helpful advise on my topic of antiques. I think that interviewing her was a good call on my part.

Tourism has had major impact on the city of XiZhou. Lately the locals have been refurbishing XiZhou to make it more of a tourist attraction, and to be more comfortable for the tourist to be. During the past 3-4 days my fellow Microcampus piers and I have found some very evident examples. Firstly the people of XiZhou have put up streetlights on roads to make it easier for tourist to walk. We were told of these new streets lights when our teacher (Mr. Tafel) had pointed out that the last time he had come to XiZhou those lights were not there at the time.

Today was our fist day that we somewhat implemented our Microcampus Schedule.  We started the day with our usual breakfast and meeting. Following the meeting we had SAS essentials. Sas essentials are a time in the morning where we focus on finishing our homework form one subject a day. Today we were focused on math. In math we all split into groups based on teacher and math level. Once our time was up for SAS essentials we moved onward to our committee work. In my case I have to work with the bikes that we all use and make sure that they are all fit for service.

Today was all about touring XiZhou and getting to know the streets better. We started the day with a huge breakfast of Bread, Eggs, Butter, Pancakes, and other delicious items. Then I was selected to be apart of the dishwashing team; therefore after breakfast and dinner I was sent to the kitchen to wash the dishes. Once the dirty work was over with we all got our essentials and set off for our tour around XiZhou. The village was not how I had predicted it to be. There was quite a bit of construction and ancient buildings.

The journey started off with my piers and I attempting to wake up and board the 9:00 flight to Kumming. Once in Kumming we split the group, one half wen to get lunch for us at KFC, the other half went to go get the luggage. Afterword we had had to prepare for a 6-12 hour bus ride to XiZhou. Charlotte, Erik, Annie, and I were all sent to go get 48 bottles of water for our group. During the Bus ride we were entertained by questions and information from Mr. T about all of the scenery and ancient history of the Yunnan province.

The Lock in started off as a regular afterschool activity with all of the Pudong kids awaiting the arrival of the Puxi kids in the Middle School Library. We all stood there tired form our long day of school, talking to one another about what we were all missing to come to the Lock in and about how boring it might be. Once the Puxi kids came and we were addressed with our first assignment, I knew we would have a lot of fun.

My name is Aniketh. I am a 12-year-old eight grade student from SASPD, and this is my second year living in Shanghai. I have one little brother named Abhinav who is currently going to 3rd grade. My first year of living in Shanghai has been very exciting, because I have been given many more opportunities to learn and improve my skills as a student and as a person. I have already learnt more about the Chinese culture and heritage. A little bit about myself, I am very interested in sports and in education. I play soccer, football, and street hockey. When it comes to education I am very interested in politics and what goes on around the world, therefore I am currently apart of MUN. I am also interested in Music, I play the violin in the Intermezzo orchestra. I am very happy to have gone to XiZhou and experience the Microcampus program. I hope that future Microcampus groups will enjoy this village just as much as we all did.
