I came to Microcampus because I wanted a life changing experience and that's what it was. Before this trip experience I only had heard things about how amazing Microcampus was and wanted to try it out. I wanted an experience that would change my life forever and that's what I got. The first day I came to Microcampus Mr. T and Ms. Mai sat down with me and simply said "I'm so glad that you are on this trip George." I took this as an invitation to make the most out of my experience.

My service learning partner is Mr. Zhang, he is now 74 years old, he is and has been a barber for 54 years. I learned from him about the history of China, about the reformation and the great leap forward. I also learned about the changes in XiZhou through the past 70 years. I learned that XiZhou has became a richer village through the great leap forward. I also learned that the people in the village has more opportunity for jobs. People were dying due to starvation.

Many people, such as my parents, asked me why I wanted to go to Microcampus. There is many reasons why that I want to come here. Firstly to break outside the bubble. Second, I want to be more independent. Third is to enjoy the enviroment here in Xizhou. I always heard from my friend that have been on Microcampus before that the sky is full of stars. The list goes on almost forever. I have been outside of the bubble for a whole month here on Microcampus, and I have achieved many stuffs by doing that.

Yesterday night was the second, and last trip to Dali Old Town. My friends and I decided that we should try the bad Monkey's burgers, so we set off on an adventure to find the burger place. We could not find the place, but we did find a nice hot pot place, so we stopped there and had hot pot. The hot pot was good, but my friends were still hungry for food, so we went off to find a sweets shop. Instead of finding a sweets shop we found McDonalds, so I helped them order some ice cream, we sat down, and talked.

On Day 26 we shared our services learning video to our parture. We plan to start our services learning sharing at three 0' clock. However, she showed up at around 14:00 because she needs to leave at 15:00. We quickly told the others to get their services learning parture so we could start showing them the video. She was dressed in Bai clothing, and she was performing the Bai dance in the main court yard.

Before I came on to this trip my reason to come on the trip was to find my self, it was to learn how to be independent and see the world out side of the 'bubble". I wanted to come to Microcampus at the start because my brother did it, my friends did it, and many people talk about it. My motivation of joining Microcampus was partly  because of my brother.

When I applied for Microcampus, last December, I had a few things in mind as why I wanted to go to Microcampus. There were a few main things I wanted to accomplish. Getting to know the people at the village, personal growth, and to experience something new.

At fist I thought my goals we to go out of my comfort zone and to learn new things, but I realized it's much more than that. In microcapus you are a part of a team, everyone has to work together or they're going to have a bad time. I think you don't just have to be able to be smat you have to be social. You have to be social to get along with both people in the group and out so you can connect with the people outside of your view. Because they are the once you won't always be able to see all the time.

I came to Microcampus for many reasons. Prior to the trip my reasons were that I wanted to come in order to learn about culture, to learn about food, to experience the nature, and to get away from the industrial world. Back then, I thought Microcampus was all about the work we were going to do. I thought that we were going there to complete our Inquiry projects and service learning, and all the other things, the village, the nature, and all other things were background noise. Back then, I wanted to get my work done, enjoy the scenery and nature, and bask in the fresh air.

Today was made for inquiry project catch up and packing our suitcases. I think the most depressing part of a trip is the packing at the end. From leaving Microcampus I am both sad and happy. I am happy to see my friends and family again, but sad to lose all the freedom of our days. Microcampus has allowed me to be more free, but made me so much more responsible.

During the application process for Microcampus, we wrote why we wanted to attend. That was eight months ago. I stated reasons about getting out of the bubble and trying new things. I said that I had never done anything like this before, and thought it would be different and exciting. When I think back, I really did not know much about what Microcampus was like before comign here. I knew the basic just of it from Mr. Tafel's presentation, but I couldn't truly understand. Applying so early had an affect on me. It gave me time to develop this idea in my head of what it was goign to be like.

It is our last complete day here in Xizhou and it was a busy one. Our inquiry projects were not up to par with Mr. Tafel's standards do it was a frenzy of students working today. The issue that I had with my inquiry project was that my final product was not loading. I tried so many times to re-upload it to the blog page, but it would not work. Finally, on my last attempt, it loaded.

When I first heard of Microcampus, I was still in 7th grade. A few of my friends had signed up while I was still wondering what Microcampus was. At the beginning of 8th grade, I attended a presentation and thought it was interesting. After telling my parents, they also thought it was a good idea for me to get out there and learn. So, I signed up.

Today was our final full day at Microcampus. Today was the day we said our goodbyes to the Linden Centre, local people we knew and Xizhou itself. First, it was a work day. We had to finish all our projects and made sure they were presentable on the website. Next, we packed our bags and attempted to shove everything into our suitcase. Since this was not working out very well because I wanted to make sure my antiques did not break, I packed that into a box and placed it into my book bag.

Mr. Zhang did not come to the presentation of the service learning videos, because he did not want to. However, we visited him on May 14th 2015, Day 27 of our trip, one day after the presentation. Just before lunch, we walked up to his shop, but he was cutting someone's hair, so we left. We went back to the shop at 12:40 or so and it was in the middle of the day so the heat was intense. He said to come in, finished cutting someone's hair, and sat down.

When we shared our video with Duan Ai Yi we got to watch as everyone got to watch our video. We were supposed to do this because we got to observe how people watched our video. Mr. T related this experience to watching the sunrise on our hike, we watched the sunrise but we also watched the back ground of the sunrise and how the sun hits the mountains. In this we get to see the effect of our video on people. When people were watching our video I could see real intrest on our service learning partner.
