Tonight was a fairly regular night. The moon was out, the stars where shining, the wind was blowing. Everything was very nice. Normally we would be allowed to use our computers, because it was downtime. The thing is the group as a whole had lost the trust of Mr.T and  Mrs.Mai, so understandably we where not allowed to use our computers. Honestly this is not a very big deal and most everyone can survive with out their computers for a couple hours. The only problem was that after 7:00pm we are not allowed to be in a group larger than two people.

Today was the end of gathering information out in the field. We had a last teacher support time and then that was it it was start to clean up our Phase 3. Now we are going to start Phase 4 where we will be planning our final product. We all spent time on WIPPIS working on phase 3 and then we said bye to the part of the group going to Dali.

As you all know and have heard in ever so many journal post's, Xizhou has great weather. The sun is out, the air is clean and everybody feeling good. Not only that but the weather has been like this the entire trip, no joke. From Day 1 till now the days have been perfect, unless you consider 10 clouds instead of the regular 0 a bad day. On top of that the temperature perfect all the time, not to cold not to warm. Sometimes though it can get a little uncomfortable though because of the fact that it is so sunny here (I know, its just terrible isn't it (not really, at all).

Today was laundry day. So right after SAS essentials Sean and I went to the laundry center to do laundry. We put our laundry in, set the settings, and pushed the start button. After that we waited there to get some work done. After a while we realized that we needed to get back so we packed up and headed for the main entrance. When got there the steel door was closed and locked. Sean took out the key and tried to unlock the door but the lock was jammed or something and he could not open it.

Today by our 5-4-5 meeting, we have to have our Phase 3 finished and request teacher review. So far my interviewing process has been going well. Everytime I go interview an antique dealer, I come up with new questions to ask. Most recently, I talked to Mr. Du. On the three day hike we took, I found something that looked like an antique in the ground. I brought it back to Xizhou and asked Mr. Du about it. He told me that it is a rooftile that is actually not that old and is pretty worthless.

The food in Xizhou is definitely a big plus to living here! The restaurants are quite different than the ones we are used to in Shanghai because here we don't have fancy malls with commerialized restaurants. Not only is it authentic, it is also really delicious to munch on.

For tonights evening activity we are going to Dali Old Town!  The rest of the day was pretty typical but hurried.  Today was focused on finishing up Phase 3 as it was due at the end of the day.  Because I want to write the journal entry about Dali Old Town, I'll put this just as a teaser and check back tomorrow for more! :)

Today is the due date for Phase Three! This means that after today there will be no more researching, just sharing. This is quite frightening. You have to understand, for the past 6 and a half weeks I have been gathering information and researching my topic, all for this one project. I know that I have gathered a ton of information, more than I ever could've imagined, but there is just so much more I could learn.

Basically, today will be the our last time to do field research about our topic before submitting it in our Phase 3. I am confident that I have enough information and possibly more information then I need. Still, I will be going to Mr.Yang, the cormorant fisher, to ask him to give me a detailed step by step process he uses to train the cormorants. After that I am all set to start my final product. In addition to my last interview, I still have finish summarizing my last interview.

We learned many stories here in Xizhou. And now we are working to share them with the world.

Today we started our Service Learning. Service Learning is where a group of four students pair up with a local elder and share their life story. This is a chance to give back to the village that will have harbored us for a month. Some people are shy, or just don’t want to talk to us, but there are others who are friendly and open.

Xizhou is not only known for its friendly locals, its also famous for the wonderful weather. The weather here is definitely a drastic contrast from Shanghai, where the weather forecast is mostly gray skies all day every day. This is just one additional thing that adds on to the amazing experience I have had here in this village.

Today was a pretty ordinary day, except for the fact that it hauntingly reminded us that we only had 10 days (9 full days) left of Microcampus.  Because it was a pretty ordinary day, and we didn't do anything particularly special, I'm going to talk about life in general here, and in more detail, the FOOD.

Today is the second last day for getting information for phase 3, so I went out in search for more information.

I went with my buddy Sara, and went to the tie-dye place to get an interview, while Sara needed to find a service learning partner because her previous service learning partner did not agree to do the project with her group. So after a 5 minute interview with the tie-dye person, me and Sara went to look for a service learning partner.

Today many things happened. First we got our food allowence, this might not seem significant but I have only three yuan for lunch because I put 200 in the bank to use for later. Today was also the first day we had wellness in a long time. Yesterday we had wellness but everyone had to work on their week 2 wellness reflection sheet. Today I played basketball with Caleb. Today is also my day to upload photos onto the hardrive. Unfortunatly, when I plug the USB stick for my camera into the computer, it does not show up so I can not upload my photos. I am going to ask Mr.

At 11:00 I had a meeting. Not a regular meeting, but one with the principal of a local Kindergarten. Kelley, took me to the kinder, it was on the way to the Linden Centre. We exited Sifang Jie, then we stopped at the little exersise play ground. We went down an alley, right accross from it. We kept walking, following the noise of screaming children. We reached a big red door, and tried to enter.

Today, our first filming for our Service Learning Projects are due. The purpose of this project is to serve the village, and reward them for hosting us, by recording their history, in a series of filmings and/or videos. We do this through the recording of the life story of the elders in the village, anyone over the age of 60. The result of this is a permanent collection of stories that is stored on the Microcampus website, acting as a library of sorts.

Today I put my plans to reality. No not big plans, just plans about how I was going to be able to do everything in house for the next week or so. I decided that today I would be interviewing Mr.Linden at 4PM today other than that I have to eat in house for both meals for a few days but other than that nothing much has changed. I filmed a daily video shutout today where me and Diego gave a little tour of Yang Zhuo Ran, go watch that right "here" (hyperlink available once video is posted). A few of use have been homesick or a little down these past days.

Today was the day that my learning group and I had an appointment to film some elders for our service learning project. We called them at about 11:00 this morning to confirm our appointment. They responded by saying that they are "busy" this entire week, and all of next week. Mr. T had warned us that this was most likely going to happen, but it still hurt. I really thought that this couple would be our service learning partners.

Today I went out during pitching in for service learning. my group mate Kristen and I went out to get some footage of a potential service learning partner. When we got there he greeted us friendly and welcoming. Then when I asked him if we could film him he agreed without a second thought. But before we started filming he asked Kristen and I if we would be able to make a disk of the project so that he will be able to watch it and keep it. I told him that I could try and make a disk but I was not a hundred percent sure.
