Phase 0: Getting Started: Topic Exploration and Selection

Updated 6 years 10 months ago

I was initially interested in these three topics:

  1. My first choice for my Inquiry Project would be the local education system.  I am very passionate about children, and would love to learn more about how the local children of Xizhou learn.  For my project, I want to compare their schooling system, to the one here at SAS.
  2. The traditional Chinese medicine really fascinates me as how it works and the vast difference to the medicine I am used to, like Advil and Ibuprofen.  I would like to compare the differences between Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine.
  3. Another possibility for my Inquiry Project would be looking closer into the one child policy in China.  I could start broad and dig in deeper as I go.  I want to look at the policy in general, if it goes into affect in Xizhou, how it affects the people, and the difference in the younger gender population that is occuring right now.

From my top three choices for my Inquiry project, I would really love to learn more about the the one child policy in China.  This is the topic I am most passionate about and find simply fascinating.

One Child Policy In China- Out of all the possible topics I have considered, I wanted to investigate this particular topic because I once read an article about it, and was captivated by how it worked and the damage it could have done to families, and how it may help or hurt the country in general.   This topic is important to me because I believe in equal rights between genders and that everyone should have the right to have as many children as they wish too.  There is much I plan to find out about my topic.   I would think that it may not go into that much affect in Xizhou right now, even though the policy is still in place.  It most likely affected the elders of XIzhou.  I also believe that I will find that boys are more wanted than girls.
