Today is December 1 and the 14 day of Microcampus. I am having to write my journal entry early because we have to leave early for our hike. I am excited to go on our journey, I have all of my things packed, I have double and even thripple checked to make sure that I have all of my things gathered. The only thing I need to remember is to bring my camera so I can post a lot of pictures of the scenery along the way.

After Pitching In, we will have an early lunch, then we were off to go hiking. We have been preparing for the last two days during evening activity. We had one night with an introduction on tents and how to set them up. As well as that, we also had one night to pack our hiking bags.

Today is December 1. We went camping today. Before camping, we had breakfast, SAS essentials, and our daily meeting, but today we did not have our WIPPIS time. First, we hiked 600 meters up the mountain, and then came back down. We then took a bus to the campsite. My roommates for the camping trip are the same roommates in Yang Zhou Ren. We set up our tents in a nice spot a few meters away from the other tents. Since we have three people we have had to set up two tents. One was for us to sleep in and one was for us to put our bags in.

Today was the day where all of our preparation came to use. We have been preparing for the past three days; on one night we tried out the tents, another night we packed all our clothes that we need and put in our hiking bags. We had an early lunch so that we could have time to hike up. We are going to go up 600 meters, walk on flat land for a bit and then walk down. The hike will take us about 4 hours if we keep a consistent pace and do not slow down too much. We are going to be sleeping at Er Hai level, not so much in altitude so that we are not cold.

Today is Day 13 out of Day 28 of Microcampus. We are almost at the halfway point, and time is passing by very quickly. Today was a normal day, and we had SAS Essentials (which was math today) and then we had our daily meeting. Today in the daily meeting, we were shown a calendar for this week and the next two weeks, then we talked about what we are going to do for our evening activity. Since we are going to go hiking and camping tomorrow, our evening activity is going to be packing our hiking bags. Yesterday, we set up tents and Mr.

Today was an eventful day and everything went according to plan. I asked a lot of questions to Ms Yang and she answered a lot of my questions. I spent around ten to twenty minutes in her store just talking about the different reasons why Bai Ethnic Minority clothing has changed so much. She told me that the main reason for the change was because it was easier to walk around. There are still people that wear the traditional Bai Ethnic Minority clothing, but many don't anymore. Today was a tiring day and I hope there more relaxing days to come. See you under the stars...

Today I visited the Cheese Factory once again and it was amazing. I gathered a lot of things from different owners, and also visited a Miao Ethnic Family store. In there, she told me so much about different stitches that people use to make different stitches. I spent forty-something minutes in the Miao Ethnic Minority learning about her lifestyle and all the different things people want out of embroidery. Tommorrow, I plan on going to a bigger embroidery store and ask them about the preference on embroidery. It'll be great and I bet a lot of fun. See you under the stars...

Today is November 30th, 2017, and today is my long-awaited lesson on how to make Xizhou baba. The morning started off like any other morning of the week. After an entire morning's worth of hard work, we all dug in and ate our lunch ravenously. After lunch came our WIPPIS time. Today my WIPPIS schedule is the same as Saleem and Hayley. We had Pitching-In first, then Inquiry Project, Wellness, and finally, Still time.

Today is November 29. Yesterday for evening programming we practiced setting up tents and taking them down. Since it is a weekday, today was the same as yesterday's schedule. Before SAS essentials we met a man named Wilbur. He specializes in threading. Wilbur is another one of Mr. Tafel's impressions. After our first part of the day, we then had our WIPPIS time. I went out with Ms. Song to talk to people in the village about stories they were told when they were younger, and stories that happened to them when they were younger.

Today was a very chill day thanks, to my schedule. I started with Inquiry Project, Wellness, Still Time, and Pitching-In. During Inquiry Project time I went out with Ms. Mai. We went out to meet the Miao Family. Even though their focus is embroidery they know a little bit about tie-dye the preferences that tourists have. Afterwards, I came back home and recorded my interviews. Then Chris L. and I went out for a run. During our run, we decided to go on a new path.

Today is November 29th, 2017, and today is the day that I learn how to make cheese. After we ate lunch outside in the village, my inquiry project time came along and it was time for me to go back out into the village to ask some more questions. I got ready and set out with Mr. Chen for the Cheese Factory. As soon as I stepped into the factory, I could smell the rich aroma of the cheese. I could not wait to get started. The owner of the place was a nice lady named Ms. Zhang and a man named Mr. Yin. They were very generous and patient with me as they led me through the entire process.

We have to get information from local contacts about our Inquiry Project topics every day. Normally, I would sign up for teacher support so that I could go out of Yang Zhuo Ran and talk to people in the village, but today I wanted to talk to Ms. Linden, and she came to Yang Zhuo Ran with her dog Nala and had a conversation with me. She talked to me about my topic and answered a lot of my questions. Ms. Linden talked to me about many different aspects of health and wellness, and she also brought her dog Nala, who is a half Labrador and half Golden Retriever.

Today is November 29 and day 12 of Microcampus. Today Nina and I went out the center of Si Fan Jie for lunch. I had to communicate because I was the best at speaking Mandarin. We went to a place that she has not been to and I have not visited recently. This restaurant is very narrow and was smiley faces on the back of all the chairs. This place is a family business with a street vendor in front selling cheese. I knew what to order based on of my friends that speak fluent Chinese and I would ask them how to say a certain food and after they replied I would write it down in my notes.

Today is November 29. I have decided that I want to focus more on myths/legends and stories because I feel like that would be a more interesting project. So today for my inquiry project I went out with Mr. Chen, and I talked to some people in Si Fang Jie about stories they were told when they were young. I talked to a few people and they told me about some stories that I thought was very interesting. After our WIPPIS time, we had dinner. We were all in for dinner, and then we had our evening programming.

For my inquiry project, I went out with Mr. Tafel for teacher support and we went to the cheese factory. Yesterday for teacher support I went with Mr. Chen and it was really useful, as I got a lot of information from various shop owners. Today I hope to see how they make the cheese and see the process of making it. Mr. Tafel was very helpful, and the cheese factory was very interesting. After WIPPIS and dinner, we had our evening programming.

Today was a struggle to wake up early as it was a very cold morning. In the morning I did my SAS essentials and also did some pitching in. Before lunch, I also got to interview Ms. Linden and ask her some questions on tie-dye. I also got to pet Nala her dog who is a golden retriever and a Labrador mix. Afterwards, we had lunch and then I had to do the dishes alongside two other peers as we were assigned dish duty for the day.

Today was the day I have decided to narrow down the things that I might investigate in my Inquiry Project. Just to make it clear, I have decided to search on the preference on a tourist or a citizen of Xizhou. So in the following weeks, I will be sure to research more about that part of embroidery, though I have already done many things on the techniques and the history of embroidery, this might be my biggest topic. Anyways, enough about all the endless things in Inquiry Project. How have you guys been in Shanghai?
