Today is December 3rd. It is our second Sunday here in Xizhou. Yesterday when we came back we had to set up our tents so that all the water from the condensation could dry up. We then had lunch outside, and came back had time for service learning, pitching in time, and some downtime and still time. We got to wake up late today which was nice after the hike. I was really tired yesterday as it was the 'after hike', so getting a lot of sleep was very good. I am not that tired but I am kind of sore on my shoulders. For service learning today we went to Si Fang Jie and in the alleyways.

Today is December 3 and day 16 of Microcampus. Today me and my group for service learning, Henin and Holly went out to make more connections with the locals and come back to talk with past people that we have made connections with. We went to see some new person that we have not seen before, we talked to her for a while and learned that she was into embroidery and that she is 62. Unfortunately, she is not eligible to be a part of our service learning project, but I am glad that we were able to talk and connect with her.

Today is December 3rd, 2017 and today is the day my Service Learning partners and I went out to make more connections with the elders of Xizhou for our Service Learning Project. Furthermore, today was also our laundry day. This meant that we had to wake up earlier on a weekend, which was not very pleasant for me. Nevertheless, I was glad to have new clothes to wear for another week. At 12:00 came lunch, and then Service Learning time right after.

Today is December 3. Since it is Sunday we got to wake up later than usual. I woke up at 7:30 to do my laundry because today was my laundry day. Everything went out great, and all my clothes dried pretty quickly. We then had our pitching in, after our breakfast. I finished breakfast and the dishes pretty early so Mr. Tafel brought out the hacky sack. He taught us how to play and the best parts of your body to use. We started to play and it was really fun. We ended up playing for about 30 minutes. If everyone touches the hacky sack then you get a hack and you celebrate.

Hiking, an activity that I sign up to do every year, is a challenge to me even though I love it. Since I was the slowest out of all of us, I volunteered to lead the “pack”. Being in the first one was hard since our guide Max (Mr. T in disguise) wouldn’t tell me which way to go but to follow my instincts. I was struggling with the way to the top and had trouble breathing. According to Henin, my face turned pale and Mr.

Today was just a normal Microcampus day, with SAS essentials, pitching in and then finally WIPPIS time. Since I had to change my teacher support session due to other, I moved mine to Ms. Braverman, someone I had not been without in Xizhou yet. Ms. Braverman and I walked around Dali old street until we found Xizhou’s high school. The guard of the school was nice enough to let us on the campus with no reasons because we didn’t look like bad guys. The school’s campus was huge with designs that look like it could be a Chinese style residential area.

Yesterday, we went on a hike. We hiked up to the Jade Belt, which is 2600 meters above sea level. The way up was one-third of our hike, and it was also the most difficult. Many people tripped, got hit in the face with branches and leaves and also got bug bites. For me, the way up was okay, and it wasn't too hard since I have gone hiking a few times before. Once we reached the Jade Belt, it was much easier as the ground was flat and paved. We got to put down our heavy backpacks and put our chins on the edge of the rock and look down.

Today was the first day I did laundry due to the past week’s illness. I fabric sorted my clothes and left them in the washing machine. Since the weather and air in Xizhou, Yunnan is very dry, the clothes dry very quickly. The dry weather cause my hands to crack and my skin to itch but it is all good because I have lotion.

I could ramble on and on about the great things here in Xizhou - the weather, the people, the environment - but one aspect of Xizhou's culture stands out: the food. From the rice noodles to then Ma La Tang, almost every dish I've encountered has made my mouth water. Today, however, I had experienced something even greater. Ana M. and I were searching for a place to eat lunch, and we stumbled upon a small restaurant of Hui cuisine. Restaurants owned by people of the Hui minority group can usually be spotted by the Arabic writing on their signs.

Saying that today was a busy day was an understatement. We rushed in and out of tents, and domes, to get ready without freezing to death. Though it was cold and busy, the sight of the mountains and trees we saw yesterday made up for it all. Like mentioned earlier, in my previous journals, we hiked up to the Jade Belt and down for four reasons, and those are personal growth, expanding intercultural understanding, solving real problems, and awareness of impact. Those were the main reasons why we wanted to go up the mountain.

Today we are getting ready for our camp night and hike to the Jade Belt. We are going to climb 600m upwards, from the altitude of 2,000m, and hike along the Jade Belt for a bit. Altogether, our hike and descend will most likely take us 4 hours. To get ready for our hike, we spent our Evening Activity time to pack up for our hike, and that included, gloves, a stocking cap, warm hoodie, spare jeans, and many more things to keep us warm. In conclusion, just need to bring clothes that will be very warm and beneficial to your hike. Another thing you had to bring was our sleeping bags.

Over the course of my 3 to 5 interviews,  every person I had talked to had recommended that I visit the local embroidery workshop, Happy Embroidery. This workshop was a two-minute walk from the Yangzhuoran, and being so close, I decided to set up a time for a class today. The class I took part in was affordable, fun, educational, and lasted for about two and a half hours. Henin C. joined me as well, for here entire project is focused on the technique and production of embroidery.

It started with a rumbling vibrato, and the tables trembled in fear. A strange silhouette emerged from the shadows, half of his face masked with dark fabric. "Behold: the music of the night!" It did not matter that we were about to have dinner. We all knew: the half-faced Phantom had returned.

Today is Saturday, December 2nd. We finished our hike yesterday at 5:30 and then got in the car and reached the campsite at 6:15. The first thing we did when we got there was set up our tents. We then head to eat dinner, which the teachers had kindly organized for us. After dinner, we were allowed to quietly talk in the Dome, which was where we ate dinner. Then we went into our tents so that we could get nine hours of sleep. In the morning, we woke up at 8.00 and we then cleaned up the inside of our tents, then folded our tents. We then headed to breakfast. After breakfast, Mr.

Today is December 2nd, 2017 and today, we woke up in a tent. The morning was cold as I climbed out of my tent with my tentmates to go and prepare for the morning. We were still very tired from the vigorous hiking yesterday. As we rose up to stretch our well-rested muscles, we could feel the light breezing wind blowing across our cheeks. The sun was like a heat lamp, giving us the desired warmth as it slowly rose up high into the sky. We marveled at our surroundings, amazed at the wondrous sight.

Today is December 1st, 2017, and today is the day we go hiking in Xizhou. We headed toward the mountain at around 13:00, right after we finished lunch and washed the dishes. As we approached the foot of the mountain to begin the hike, we all felt extremely anxious and excited for the 4-hour hike. However, after 1 hour of hiking upwards, all the excitement and enthusiasm seemed to be replaced by fatigue and the craving for rest. We followed the mountain trail and trekked upwards for what seemed like hours. At one point, we even took the wrong path and deviated off course for a while.

Our hiking trip was amazing with so many views. We all loaded up all of the food, water, and tents into the four vans before we drove to the mountain. When we got there Mr. Tafel picked three people to go first and set the pace of the hike, these people were called the first group. Then I was the leader of the second group, we needed to be five meters away from the first three people. As we got further into the hike it was challenging to keep a steady pace and not stop. When we were about one hour into the hike we stopped and took in the view from between two mountains.

Yesterday was a very nice day. We hiked up the mountain and it took 5 hours to get to the top and back to the bottom. The scenery was very beautiful, but I got my finger stuck on a tree and I got a little cut. The hiking was very fun, and after we accomplished the hike we went over to the campsite. Once we were there we set up our tents and went over to this dome, where we had our dinner. For dinner, Ms. Mai brought us Xizhou baba bread. We got to make a sandwich with the bread, and it was very tasty. I also tried the sweet potato.
