Today was our first time communicating with the villagers to get information about our inquiry project. I choose Mr. Yin for my local contact because he was one of the main five wealthy families. Today, he was not here, so I interviewed Mrs. Yin, his wife. I felt that I was not prepared for talking with her and there was many awkward silence. To make sure that this does not happen again, I am going to write down some chinese vocabulary and practice more on speaking out my question.

Today I realized the importance of having backup plans in Microcampus. This is because you will use them all. ALL. So today I planned to talk to Mr. Linden, but he was not available, so I tried to find Mr. Zhao, another contact but we could not find him. And so I went to the Linden Centre and asked Mr. Yun about some locations and people he may know. In the morning meeting, it hit me that the SAS community is ruining our schools image outside of our campus. Despite of the measures our school takes to make sure we do not make a negative impact, many are still being made.

Today we had our first WIPPIS day, and everything is more in rhythm. I did my laundry for the first time in Microcampus today. Through planning laundry and everything, I recognized what it take to live as a team. We are a team, not a collection of individuals. Microcampus has already changed the way I look at the world. I am now more comfortable talking to new people and more open to new experiences.

Today was the fifth day of Microcampus. Our alarm clock didn't go off in the morning, but thanks to Annie we woke up on time. Today Nolan led the daily meeting, it ran on a bit longer than expected, and our pitching in time was cut short. Because of this, my pitching in time was cut short, and I had a busier schedule than usual. Annie and I did our laundry today, we had a lot of clothing and the west winds were pretty strong. After pitching in and lunch, I headed out to the cheese factory with Ms. Mai to interview Mr. Yan about his cows and his cheese.

Today is the first day we got to go out into the village and talk to locals. We have teacher support meaning that a teacher will come with us just to be there in case we need help, also not to waste other microcampus students inquiry project time. I signed up to go with Mr. T because he reccomended this contact to me. I was going to meet Mr. Yang, an old man about 95-96 years old. He has a really good memory, so I wanted to talk to him. But he wasn't at home and so we went to talk to Mr. Zhao at this Baba Shop and Mr.

Nolan and I went on a bike ride to lake er hai and as you can see in the last journal post. Cycling was tough for me and today I fixed many of the difficulties I have yesterday like adjusting the height of the seat. So, I choose another bicycle seat that was lower in height, so I can ride better. Another difficulties I fixed was that yesterday, I could not ride through gravel and I had to stop in the middle. However today, I could ride back and forth without stopping. I am really proud of my improvement and I hope to ride bicycle agian.

Today is our 4th day at microcampus and our 1st day of WIPPIS. I started off the day with a 5:00 AM run. Only to realize that the power was out and there was no water. This came to a big surprise and quite a difficult start. The run was beautiful running through the pitch black village. When our run slowly came to an end the sun started to rise. when we came back from the run we all needed to move our stuff over to the Linden center so that we could work. We had our SAS essentials and daily meeting there.Today was the first day I did my own laundry during pitching in time.

Today I woke up at 5: 30 to go for a run with Nolan and Annie. But the moment we got up, we realized that the power was out. Thankfully Annie and I brought tent lights to light up the room. The entire villages power was down and it was very cold out. I used my headlamp to light the way, and avoid obstacles. The stars were everywhere and they were very bright. We were close but didn't make it to Er Hai, due to my slow running pace and need to pause every few hundred meters. I realized how unfit I am and my need for exercise. After our run, we had a full breakfast, and pitching in.

On day 4, we spent the most of our time in Linden Center because there was an electricity and water shortage back in Baochengfu; after a meeting hosted at the conference room, we walked around in Sifangjie to familiarize ourselves with some restaurants and shops that we would potentially want to pay a visit to, either for inquiry or meals.

Today was our first semi-official day working. We worked on our 3-5's interview. I interview Ms. Mai, Ms. Zhao, Ms. Song, and Ms. Qi. The last person I need to interview is Mr. T. I received a lot of useful information on who I can contact and learn from. We worked on writing poems for our ELA class during SAS essentials time. We had an hour and a half of pitching in, we talked to Mr. T about our committees and what our jobs are in more detail than before. We then had an amazing lunch in. At around three we took a bike ride down to Er Hai, then into one of the smaller villages.

Today, we had a bike ride and we traveled all the way outside the village.  The roads had lots of obsticles like moving, stopping cars, gravel, bubby road, motorcycle and more, but when we stopped focusing as much on urselves, that is when we truely see the beauty of the landscape.  I certainly cannot believe how beautiful the view is. There are beautiful mountains in the landscape with green paddy and most important the weather is amazing. The weather had swirly white clouds floating peacefully in the air with blue bright sky and some sunrays shinning down.

My committees are Food and Menue which is planning out what we eat, banking and financing which is distributing the allowance every 4 days and Laundry We stopped which is assigning laundry to people. After lunch we then moved on to our Inquiry projects.

On day 3 of Microcampus, we had our first official SAS essentials session, and the committees we were a part of had gone to work. On the afternoon, one of the most memorable things that would stick out to me for the rest of the trip was our thirty minutes of still-time in the fields after our bike ride.

Today was the official day we got into our regular schedule without WIPPIS (Wellness, Inquiry Project, Pitching in, and Still time). Some highlights of the day the bike ride, our first daily meeting, and working on my inquiry project. We rode out bikes out to Er Hai which is the lake near our village. It was an amazing sight to see. There were streams of light coming out of the clouds and shining on the mountains which made it look like heaven. We also completed the Flying V while riding out bikes.

Xizhou is a village much more than lots of tourists and traditional food like "Xizhou baba", in every corner you go you will see something fascinating. Today, we went to see a man creating rapeseed or canola oil by putting large pieces of flower into a machine to create oil.  In shanghai, we would not have seen this and later we went to see how they made Xizhou baba.

Today we spent some time getting ourselves familiar with our surroundings. We saw the market and got to know the local life by visiting a factory where various local rice products are created. Emergency norms were established and I knew how to get to certain places in Xizhou, such as the town square named Sifangjie. We attached ourselves to the local culture by visiting a rapeseed oil maker and visiting a local market, and asking questions about daily life and how the market works.

Today we started off the day with once again an amazing meal. We first took a tour of BaoChengFu, walking around learning a little bit about the history and culture. I found out a lot about the history, I learned that the buildings were built in 1928 after a large earthquake. The first court yard and the second court yard where built with the traditional architecture. While the third court yard was built with more a modern influence from southeast Asia. After we finished the tour of BaoChengFu, we had the tour of SiFangJie.

On day 2 of Microcampus, we took a longer route around the village for a deeper comprehension about the directions, roads, meeting places, et cetera. During this time, we went to the bank and collected change, visited and overseen some stores and factories, tasted the food of the locals, and made conversation with various shop owners.
