December 3rd, the 15th day of Microcampus. Today is also the start of our second weekend. Today we continued on a project we started last weekend. The title is also the title of this journal. Called service learning. It is where you go out to locals that have a certain age, and ask about their past, their childhood.

Today is Day 15 of Microcampus. The highlight of my day was my bike ride. I went on a 2 hour bike ride with Hillary and Imani. We went to Er Hai (lake). The view was breath taking and I enjoyed it very much. Once we got to our destination, we ate Oreos and took pictures. After we finished, we picked Stella up from the Silver Smith.

We all get stressed. It is a natural feeling, especially for teens. There are ten of us here staying in one house for a month. Last night, the stress level went up really high. I was one of the people that got stressed last night. We were all working so hard and pushing ourselves to do our very best. We were aiming 10 feet high. And every time we missed we got upset. Sometimes it is okay to miss. Mr. Tafel told us that we have improved a lot lately and that he is proud of us. We still are doing this for ourselves, though, not for our teachers.

Today we went out to look for a Service Learning partner for our project. First, we looked at a person's house who Kevin knew, when we found out they weren't home we walked across a garlic field to the Linden Centre. Once we got there we couldn't find any people who could help us so we walked down to the house of an antique dealer that we knew, he also wasn't home though. We talked to a few more people but not all of them spoke Mandarin.

Today we were introduced to the Service Learning project. For the Service Learning, we find a local person who is over 70 years old. They have to not be Service Learning partners before with other people. For the project, we have to ask people about their lives in Xizhou. Today our Service Learning group walked around the village to talk to people. Most people don't want to talk to us because it is busy during the middle of the day, which is when we went out.

Today is day 15. We have a lot of free time today. I am going to go take a picture of a tapestry that I like and probably buy it. I am going to show the picture to Ms. Pam and see if she can make some pillows that match the tapestry. If she can't, then I have some pillows that I want to buy from her. Today I am also going to go on an adventure. Some of us, not really sure who, are going to go on a bike ride. I am excited for my plans that I have for the afternoon.

Today is day 15 of Microcampus and it has been the perfect Saturday so far. This past week has gone by so much faster than the first. Our group has been able to hit the 10 foot rim, now we just have to stay there for the next 13 days. We are all human and we will make mistakes, the goal is to not let those mistakes hold us down, we just have to learn from them. I love Saturdays because we can get up super late, and still have lots of time to get ready before breakfast. Today I woke up at 8:30 and could take my time getting ready and eating breakfast.

Although today is another really relaxed day with tons of down time, we still tried to keep the standards up. With the emotional struggle that everyone went through yesterday at night about the high expectations and Mr. T's explanation that we are allowed to make mistakes and not be perfect, today seemed to be a pretty chill weekend day.

Today is Day 14, which marks the half-way point of Microcampus. The highlight of my day was definitely the hike. All of us got to hike for about two hours. The hike was a bit challenging and I got to see amazing views. Small terraces and Lake Erhai were in view. As well as mountains and white houses that stretched for half miles. Windmills and small homes were barely visible on the the north eastern mountains. When we first started up the mountain, we stopped at two temples. At each, I learned a bit more about the peoples' perspective and history.

December 2nd, the 14th day of Microcampus. Today we had a hike on quite a beautiful mountain. Our hike didn't go that high for altitude and didn't last that long either. It was a short 3-hour hike up and down. We ended up on in this Meiba village mosque.

Another song that I enjoy is called The Climb. It is about how life is going to try and stop you. Sometimes you are going to just want to move the mountains. In reality, you have to climb the mountain to see what is on the other side. Today I climbed a mountain and got to see what was on the other side. Today we reached our half way point on the mountain of Microcampus. I cannot yet tell if I will end up at the bottom of the mountain or at the summit. It is funny how songs can describe real life. Even though we didn't get to do very much today, I still had fun.

Today is day 14 of Microcampus, which means that we are half way done with the trip. As a group, we have significantly increased our effort and ability to preform a task. Today we started with breakfast, SAS essentials and then our daily meeting. After that, Mr. T talked to us about "hangers and hooks", which is a process we use for our inquiry project work. Basically, we should be able to take all of the information we have gathered and put it into 3 major sections under our big topic.

Today is day 14. We are half way done with the trip and the second week has gone by very fast. This week we had a lot of time for Inquiry Project work. We are ending a pretty tough week. We have improved this week from the bad times and we have been using our plan to make sure that we follow the expectations. I am excited to see what we have in store for the next half of the trip. This morning we had hangers and hooks.

Today was the hike, we had an early lunch and went out to the mountain. At the start of the hike, we went to a few temples then kept hiking up the hill. Later on, we saw a lot of traditional graves and we walked over a little stream. Near the end, we climbed up a steep rocky hill and saw some cacti. once we got to the top, I ate some snickers bars. After we walked down, we stopped to look at a mosk, we didn't go inside or take any pictures but we did learn about a massacre of muslims in the area hundreds of years ago. The hike was a nice break from work and I enjoyed it.

Today marks the halfway point of our trip. It feels so fast, yet we also did a lot. Today we had the hike. We first drove over to the foot of the mountain, then started hiking. At some points the path was wide, but at other points the road was very narrow. Sometimes the path was steep, and we had to go really slowly. The hike took about an hour, and even though it was short, it was intense at some points. I think that even though we were supposed to camp, this short hike still helped me. Even though it was tiring physically, it helped my mental stress.

Today is the 14th day of Microcampus out of the 28 days, which means that we are already halfway through the trip. I can't believe there's only two weeks left in this beautiful village. In the morning, we talked about hooks and hangers, which is about our final product of inquiry project and gave me a lot of inspiration of how I could exhibit my experience.

Today is the mid way of Microcampus, meaning that there are only 14 days left on the trip. We were allowed to camp and hike at first, but then due to some issues we can no longer camp outside with our green sleeping bag. It was a bit dissappointing but I was worried that I would die because of how high the mountain is.

One of my favorite songs is called A Drop in the Ocean. Some of the lyrics talk about wishing for something that will never come true, such as wishing for rain while you stand in the dessert. If you keep making wishes, standing in the same spot, and never moving forward, you will not get anywhere. If you are able to realize your mistakes and move forward then you are truly living. No one is perfect. Life is going to try to throw things in your way over and over and over again.
