There are many reasons why I came to Microcampus. The first time I was introduced to Microcampus was at an assembly at SAS. At first, I didn't realize that it would be such a special experience. My sister convinced me to go to the information session where I would learn more about this trip. During this information session, I would learn about the Inquiry Project, the Service Learning video, as well as the Big 4. These 6 things were the reasons why I came on this trip.

So . . . Why did I come to Microcampus? In all honesty, I don't know. I was recommended by several students during seventh grade. Many of my friends have gone on this trip. It sounded very interesting, plus all the information sessions told me that, it encouraged personal growth, interactions with locals etc. I felt like it was the perfect trip for me. Plus a month out of school! Sounded perfect!

December 14th, day 26 in Microcampus. Today is our last full day in Microcampus, and the last night we sleep in our Xizhou home. We shared our Service Learning Project to whomever decides to come and we invited our partners to come as well. Our video was a little different from other groups. It took the path of telling other people the story and giving them a first person view of the Culture revolution and the hardest part of our partners life. It was quite emotional and I could tell that the audience was effectted quite strongly by the video.

Before I came to Xizhou, I knew I needed a break from the bustling crowds, crazy traffic, and unclear air. I orginally thought that Xizou was going to be a quiet, non-tourists communitiy. As it turns out, tourism is Xizhou's number one industry. Needless to say, I recieved the nonpolluted, crazy crowded village that I wished for from the beginning. The mountains on each side of XIzhou are breath taking and Lake Erhai is easily one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen.

Why I came to Microcampus? There are so many possible answers to that questions. I am going to give the truthful one. I came to Microcampus for three reasons. First, I had just moved to China and I wanted to learn more about it. Second, I was told about this trip from an Alumni who enjoyed the trip. Third, I wanted to learn more about myself.

I was one of ten students  chosen to go on a 4 week trip to Xizhou China, This trip was called Microcampus. While I have been here I studied the local games and recreation. I also Learned about the culture here and some information about myself. Going on this trip was a great adventure and I am glad that I got to go. I have had an amazing time here and I will be sad when I have to leave very soon. although I will be sad to leave I will also be happy to see my family (and dogs) once I get back .

Today has been a very busy day. We were supposed to meet with the teachers so they could edit and look over our service learning videos. After several corrections, I think we have our video nearly perfect. But the highlight of my day is not only finishing most of my service learning, it was the Jammy's (and yes, the Grammies are based off of this). At 7:30 PM we all met in the TV room with our comfort food. I ate Oreos and sour strips. First, there were the room  awards.

There were many reasons why I came to Microcampus. I was so interested in the experience and I wanted to have a chance to experience something like this. This program gives students an opportunity to experience real China outside of the Shanghai "bubble". The students have a chance to learn about ourselves and our project of high interest.

Today my Inquiry Project was completed and approved and so was our Service Learning project. In first time of all Microcampus history did so many people finish their Service Learning project so quickly. We are also most likely having the Jammies tonight, so I am looking forward to that. The Dali trip is also tommorow and I think everybody is going.

Today is the last full day of the trip. We made our way around the village and said goodbye to our friends here. We also had a trip to Dali Old Town tonight, and that was really fun. The highlight of the day was sharing our Service Learning video with our Service Learning partner as well as some other guests. We gave a DVD of our video as well as a bag of fruits to our Service Learning partner.

In the Service Learning sharing experience, we had a chance to invite local villagers of Xizhou to Yang Zhuo Ran to watch our final Service Learning video products. After hosting them with tea and snacks, the presentations went on in a comfortable atmosphere. Although Ms.

My Service Learning project was completed this morning. It took a lot of effort from our team and especially from Hillary and Kevin who had to translate and edit and edit the Chinese footage. Now it is all done. Later into the day we watched our partner for the project as she watched our video. She was very impressed with our video.  She admitted that she did not tell us about her past because she thought that we were spies from the Chinese government.

Today, I am proud to say, I finished all of my inquiry work. Click here to view all of my completed and approved inquiry work. It is satisfying to know that the only work I have left is my Service Learning project, which you can read more about in yesterdays journal, Day 23: Mrs. Deng. Instead of signing up for a WIPPIS today, we were left to do the work that e needed to complete, journals, Inquiy work, service learning, pitching in responsibilities, etc...
