Phase 4: Preparing to Share: Emerging Ideas
As we near the end of our trip, I am starting to think about what my project is actually about. I have learned the entire process of garlic by watching many a day work in the fields of Xizhou. The main point of this project is to show everyone how to grow garlic, because garlic requires certain timing and materials, not to mention certain care for it before cooking/eating. Though garlic can grow in many different soils, the conditions of the outside world are very important.
My main audience for this project is simply gardeners and those coming to Xizhou, or even China, during the spring. Gardeners will benefit from this because they will know how to grow this plant at home. It is very important to plant them at the right time. Those coming to Xizhou in the spring will learn from this because they will know what the day laborers are doing.
I think it is important to know some of the health benefits of garlic, as well as the needs for cooking. Garlic is actually a super food, and people in Xizhou eat garlic raw. It is also important to know how to prepare it, because if you prepare wrong, some of the properties within the garlic will be mellowed.
The sharing of all this information may be difficult. I want to do a Scratch video, which is an animation/game program, with pictures of actual tools and dirt that I saw here in Xizhou. It will be an animation with a 3D(ish) twist. I think the animation part will help with the motion (especially during harvest time) and the real pictures will show what items actually look like.
I am excited about this project, and I hope everyone will learn the art of garlic!
