Phase 0: Getting Started: Topic Exploration and Selection

Updated 5 years 3 months ago

When I started out choosing my topic, I was interested in not just Bai Minority Music. I narrowed done the list to Economic Case Study, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Bai Minority Music. I thought about what these topics would teach me. Economic Case Study would allow me to learn about how a specific vendor made a living. Traditional Chinese Medicine will let me see ways of healing before Ipufprofen and chemicals.

I have chosen to study Bai Minority Music. I will interview local musicians, see how instruments are made, find the meaning behind the pieces, and hope to play a couple of pieces in the process. I believe that I will get to truly interact with the locals this way, and get to know about their daily lives and how music has impacted their life. I am really curious about the style of music they play and how it differs from what I am used to. I not only want to just ask them questions, but to also really get to know them.

Hi! My name is Rebecca and I am 14 years old. I was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and have lived in Connecticut and now, China. This will be my 3rd year at SAS. I am back in Shanghai and was very excited to be part of the September-October Microcampus trip! Xizhou is an incredible place with friendly locals and breath-taking scenery. I wish lots of fun to future groups and hope you enjoy this journey as much as I did.
