Day 9: Exploring the Village

Today was also very chill. I went out to the village today, not for service learning though. I got to see and know the village better. Also I got to see more of how people interact. Some people here are very nice and welcoming but some just ignore you. Bryce at breakfast said it is because of the tourists here. Though most of these locals are really nice and are willing to speak to us.

I went around in the afternoon with Angela. We saw so many shops with interesting things like handmade souvenirs, pearls, and flowers. It was quite interesting to see the hidden part of the cultural iceberg. I saw how people communicate, their attitudes towards each other, and they solve a problem. They will not hesitate to hit the child when they are doing something wrong and the kids learn from it. It's very different from western culture. I also saw that most people are very open and willing to talk to us. Seeing the bottom part of the iceberg is quite amazing and interesting.

My name is Annie Y. I am part of the Superior Microcampus group. As of March 4, 2017, I arrived in Xizhou. We stayed in Xizhou for 28 days. Those 28 days has been such a unforgettable experience. I got to connect with the people here. They were very nice and welcoming. The weather was really nice. There was pretty blue skies and puffy white clouds. I miss everything about Xizhou and the Microcampus experience.
