Day 5: Pretty Skies on a Perfect Day...

It's interesting how your surroundings can affect your mood. Today, Xizhou boasted clear skies, dangerously fluffy clouds, and air so fresh, Shanghai would be put to shame. Trees gently sway with the flow of the wind as songbirds dive through. It almost sounds too good to be true. Today was a perfect day, everyone was doing what was expected and we are slowly treating mistakes as opportunities for learning. Collectively, we're accustoming to the dynamic of the Microcampus schedule, and this is helping me feel right at home. Although we've encountered more than a few bumps in the road, we're all learning how to properly drive. And as cheesy as it sounds, we are truly becoming a family.

Today I have collected a numerous amount of contacts and have introduced myself to many of the Xizhou locals. Throughout the afternoon, I investigated my surroundings and familiarized myself within the village, meeting many locals along the way. I had planned to visit the cheese factory and came across a numerous amount of small textile shops along the way. It was at first uncomfortable, but I am slowly learning to gain the confidence I need when introducing myself to complete strangers. These experiences are ones I am so grateful to have, for the locals within Xizhou are so kind-hearted and full of spirit. Overall, seeing their smiles made me feel more welcome and happy that they appreciated my company. I'm really looking forward to making many more new friends in Xizhou during my stay here, and I can't think of anything better...

Confidence!

Hi Holly! You really sound like you're gaining confidence and enjoying exploring (you know I love exploring too!). I can't wait to hear about what you're learning about in textiles but I do hope you get to visit the cheese factory. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. Love, Mom

Hi Everyone! My name is Holly and I am so grateful to say that I am part of the "Ultimate" Microcampus Group. I am learning so much and am so lucky to experience life outside the Shanghai bubble. Not only am I focusing on a topic that I greatly enjoy, but I am able to make connections with the many locals I will soon get to know. This trip I am part of is an unforgettable experience and will "ultimately" be an amazing trip. See you guys in a month!
