Day 28: Why I Can to Microcampus

Today is December 15 and day 28 and our final day of Microcampus. I have been reflecting and I have come up with four reasons why I chose to join the Microcampus experience.

I have come to Microcampus because of expanding cultural understanding. I have now been out of the protected Shanghai “bubble” for a whole month now. I have seen many different things that would I would never see inside Jing Qiu. I have seen things from chickens being killed in front of my eyes, to new foods that I have not even heard of. I have been dipped in the Chinese culture from now have taken the opportunity to go on this once in a lifetime experience.

The second reason that I chose to take a one-month trip to Xizhou is personal growth. I have learned so much about myself. I have grown through all of the experiences that I have had. I am now very excited that I have more things to be aware of in my daily life. This has been a heck of a journey for me. You can see the outcome of this in my final product.

My third reason that I have joined the Ultimate group was for awareness of impact. I have been learning how to give reminders to people in a polite way about our impact on the community. I have also been learning how to determine whether or not we are having a positive, negative, or none impact on the community that is around me.

Finally, I came here because I have done experiential learning. I have been embracing challenges and problems that would come up in real life. This opportunity has given me a ton of different ways to solve problems that would not come up in the Shanghai bubble. I have been able to grow through this experience and can convert all of my learning about myself in my daily life back in Shanghai. I would not have realized this if I did not come on this amazing trip.

I had been lucky enough to be able to join the Ultimate group with eight others to go down to the village of Xizhou. I had been able to grow through this experience and learn about my inquiry project and even about myself. I have made bonds and friends with the students on my trip and also the community of Xizhou.
