Day 28: Why I Came to Microcampus
Before arriving her in Xizhou, I realized that I was quite reluctant to come. A couple of days before the trip, I thought about how I would miss out on all of the opportunities in Shanghai and how I would miss out on my sports. After a few days in Xizhou, I realized how incredible this experience was, and my reluctance slowly turned into excitement. I was excited to have a new experience and a new classroom environment.
I applied to be a part of the "Ultimate" Microcampus because of the reasons which Mr. Tafel and Ms. Mai introduced; experiential learning, awareness of impact, expanding intercultural understanding, and personal growth. Microcampus is a designed to pull you out of your comfort zone for your own good. This trip, I have thought about how much I have grown and changed in these 28 days. We were encouraged to hear peoples' stories, especially if they started with the phrase: "My life is normal/ordinary/typical..."
I came to Microcampus to change, to explore, to improve. What I have gotten out of this experience is unbelievable, and I would never have imagined the results of which I would have gotten out of this trip. I want to thank everyone who helped me get through and excel during this trip. Mr. Tafel, for his endless patience and experience which helped make this trip exceptional. Ms. Mai, who talked to us and gave us valuable pieces of advice which helped improve our trip. Ms. Braverman, who introduced me to many of my connections.
This has been an exceptional trip for me, and I could not have asked for a better trip. Even though I was reluctant and I did not want to come to Xizhou at the beginning, now, I never want to leave this small and beautiful village which has been my home for the last 28 days. Thank you Xizhou for hosting me, and for making my inquiries possible.
