Day 28: Why I Came To Microcampus

Why I Came To Microcampus. The reason I came to Microcampus was because I am to spoiled. At home I will sometimes wash my dishes, but not all the time. I have someone to do my laundry, I don't do any of my laundries. Stepping out of my comfort zone in shanghai is rare and uncommon. The idea of spending a month away from my family was worrisome but I realized that also is very beneficial for when I leave for longer periods of time.  Growing up and seeing my older sister going on this trip was inspiring. I spent 4 years wanting to go on Microcampus. I knew from early on I was going. Finally, after a few presentations given by Mr. T, I knew I was set. I was excited for the life changing experience, stepping out of my comfort zone and simply learning. Microcampus is one of a kind. It is a shame that very few people came on this trip to experience it. Microcampus has been life changing, It is the single greatest trip I have ever been on. I think my time here at Microcampus has been well spent and not wasted. I really stepped out of my comfort zone by persisting in areas that I usually wouldn't. Experiential learning is a fascinating thing ever. Being able to go out and experience all of the things you are writing about is tons more useful than writing an article. I was able to connect with the community through my project which was eye opening. In shanghai, people are not rude but rather closed off and don't talk to strangers. Here however people are open and kind to strangers, because of this I am going to try harder to communicate with the community of Shanghai. I'm glad that there were many hardships through this trip so that we can learn to form them. Washing dishes and doing my own laundry was a great experience and now I know how to properly do them. Microcampus couldn't be possible without Mr. T and Mrs. Mai.  They have been wonderful teachers and I'm glad to share many memories and laughs with them. Microcampus is a trip I will never forget, It was an experience of a lifetime and I will hold Microcampus dear to my heart for a very long time.

My name is Nolan Y. and I am an 8th grader at Shanghai American School. Going on Microcampus was a life changing experience. I was able to see rural China through the lenses of not a tourist but as a local. Microcampus had taught me so many things that I would never even imagine. I am glad I came on this 28 day trip to Xizhou to learn about parental expectations and have an experience I will hold dear to my heart for a long time.
