Day 28: Why I Came to Microcampus

I will be talking about why I came to microcampus. Before the trip, my reasons for coming to microcampus were to experience outside of the bubble and being more independent. These were pretty valid reasons but after coming to microcampus, I realized why I came.

I came to microcampus to learn more. I learned more about the culture here, how it is outside of the bubble, important life skills and many others. On the three day hike, I learned many things I did not know before. These are important life skills. One of them is how to set up a tent, I also learned how to choose a good walking stick. Even though it might not seem significant to people like Isaac and Sean, I have never gone hiking before and probably would not of learned this later on. I also learned more about the culture outside of the big cities and how life goes by here.

I also learned a lot about antiques which was my inquiry topic. I feel that it was very interesting communicating with the locals to learn about a topic that I did not really know much about and it increased my personal growth. It forced me to get out of my comfort zone and do something different by making me talk to people more than I was comfortable with. I feel that after learning about the Chinese antiques, I can probably use that knowledge to compare antiques from different cultures.

Microcampus was one of the best experiences that happened to me and I feel that I can use all the knowledge I gained, small or big, in life to be successful. Microcampus is not for everybody, you have to work hard to get to the top but once you get there, the rewards are bountiful.

My name is Max. I was born in Hong Kong and have lived there for 7 years before moving to Shanghai. I enjoy playing sports like track and field and tennis. I am really enjoying Xizhou so far, the weather is great and the facilities are really nice. Microcampus has been a great experience and I will miss it very much.
