Day 25: Birthday

Today is Pepijn V.'s birthday and we celebrated by eating cake and of course, Oreos. This is one of the first birthday party that we actually surprised the person who is celebrating their birthday. We all signed a card and gave it to him. We had teachers there also, so we also gave them a piece of cake.

So far, we have had four different birthdays celebrated, and they are Xander, Erin, and Jasmine. We tried to surprise them, but they all knew before we surprised them, but it was still a good experience. We are also missing plenty of birthdays of people back in Shanghai. I heard that many people would be celebrating their birthdays over spring break, but we are still in Microcampus then, as it is our last week.

You only get one birthday each year, and only one day out of the 365 days is your birthday. For people with birthdays on February 29th, they only get to celebrate their birthday once every four years, which is sad, since you don't get cake. In the musical Alice in Wonderland, there is a scene about Unbirthdays, which are days where it is not your birthday.

Hey guys! I'm Joanne, and I'm 14 years old, and this is my 8th year at SAS. I was born in the US, but now I live and go to school in Shanghai. Being in Xizhou is amazes me, and I am thrilled to be able to be chosen to go on this trip to Xizhou. On this trip, I mainly want to learn about the arts and culture at Xizhou. I hope to get to bond with others and have fun on this trip to Xizhou.
