Day 20: Horse Carts

Today was a special day- Xiao Tang arranged horse carts for us so that we could ride to Erhai Lake and back after dinner. During the daiy meeting, Kate and I told everyone that we would have deep reflecting time for evening activity today. So everyone was astonished when we announced that we kept the evening activity as a surprise. The whole crew met up at Si Fang Jie and played badminton and hackysack for a while as Xiao Tang did her final preparations.

Surprisingly, the horse carts were very comfortable even though the road was a little rough. We saw the sun set while we were on the horse carts, and saw several locals staring at us while we passed by. When we got to the lake, we had a 10-minute terris time. The sound of water soothed me- it made me feel comfortable to be there. The city lights from far away was also beautiful and we also got to see the lighthouse, which was our first stop during our hike. Unfortunately, we couldn't see many stars because the clouds were covering them up. On the way back home, the lights on the roads reminded me of Shanghai but as soon as I looked up, the mountains made it feel like it was XiZhou again.

Overall, it's been a very comforting and a soothing day. I hope we get to visit Erhai during the sunset- it's something I don't want to miss before heading back.

Hello! I'm a 14 year old eighth grader. I'm from Korea, and it is my 7th year in Shanghai. I was very excited to be a part of the September-October Microcampus trip. XiZhou is a peaceful, bright, and unique town with friendly locals and wonderful scenery, not to mention the night skies, stars and fresh air. This town offered me self-confidence, and let me try something different for a month. I wish luck (and lots of fun) to the next group who will be part of this remarkable journey!
