Day 5: Watching Instead

"One of the most important things I've learned in life is to ignore most of what people say. I watch what they do instead"

Today was my first day of people watching in Xizhou. I went to Sifang Jie with Ms. Mai to watch both the tourists and citizens of Xizhou for around an hour. It was a very unique experience to just sit there and watch people go on with their daily lives without noticing that someone is always watching them. By watching others talk and move, I started to notice my own behaviors and how it would affect others. Although some of the tourists talk loudly, it was surprisingly calming to just watch people come and go. Especially with the sun above me, the wind in front of me and food smells all around me.

Ignoring what people say is what I do rarely, but when I do, that's when it's better.

I'm 13 years old and my favorite hobbies are to bake and do crafts. I am originally from Taiwan, however, I have only lived in Taiwan for a year. This is my 8th year at Shanghai American school. I am very excited to go on Microcampus and learn outside of the Shanghai bubble. I can't wait to learn more about the village of Xizhou and the culture of their people.
