Day 28: Why I Came to Microcampus
I came to Microcampus to experience a different way of living rather than the simple bubble of my Shanghai life. I wanted to do something other than waking up, going to school, homework, dinner, and then going to bed. I wanted to understand another culture and the people from a different area and their lives. I signed up for this trip to make new friends and learn more about myself through a new experience.
Now that I understand the life of the village, my belief of why I came to Microcampus has changed. I know now that I came to Xizhou to make new connections and learn more about myself. I believe that this trip has truly allowed me to accomplish these two goals. I have made many new friends during this trip who I now love and will miss back in Shanghai.
I also came to Xizhou to learn a different style of cooking. My Inquiry project allowed me to learn more about the different styles of dishes in the village and how they are different from the foods I have eaten in Shanghai and the US. The food here has allowed me to connect with the community members, which allowed me to accomplish my goal of making new connections and one of the reason I signed up for Microcampus.
Overall, I would have never understood how connections can be made from just a simple hi to a stranger and how one can come to love someone in such a short time. I came to Microcampus to learn about a new culture and get outside of my comfort zone and the bubble of my Shanghai life. I have learned a lot throughout my time in Xizhou and my perspective of many ideas has changed because of my time in the village. I have grown throughout this trip and I am grateful for everyone who has supported me during my time on Microcampus.
